Browning
Does anyone live in or near Browning?? Can you tell me more about the town? What stores are there? What is there for entertainment?

I worked in Browning for several years with the Medicaid Waiver program. There's a grocery store there, I think a hardware store, not sure what else. For most things you need to go to Cut Bank or Great Falls. Not much there for entertainment. There is a movie theatre in Cut Bank, but right now I can't think of much for entertainment in Browning.
Are you interested in moving there? If so, I advise a visit first.

Yes, please visit before you move there... it's a complete mess of a town IMO. Cut Bank is much nicer.

Browning is a Blackfeet Reservation. I just came back from visiting my grandfather who lives there.
Within the area there's a couple of video stores, a Ben Franklins - which is like an all around kinda store, a coffee place, couple of hardware stores, a heritage center and art gallery, casino and a few other things.
Yeah, there's not much in Browning and you gotta love the life. If you do then you'll love what's there and appreciate it. If you don't then it will be nothing but a dead town full of indians to you and a "complete mess of a place".
If you don't mind me asking - why are you interested in Browning?

Chamber of Commerce
You can find a list of businesses in Browning at www.browningchamber.com. There also seems to be some fairly decent information at www.browningcountry.com. I don't vouch for the correctness of these sites but it's what I came across when I was searching. You can also find a slightly different list of businesses at www.browningmontana.com/businesses.html. That was really helpful too. And it depends on what you mean by "entertainment."

My wife and I are also interested in learning about Browning. She has the option of teaching middle school there for a year, and we want to make the best decision. Any info would be helpful.

Rent
And does anyone know about what the average rent for one or two people is? Nothin' fancy, 1 BR place, room over a garage, rent a room, etc.
Thanks.

Thanks to all that responded about what Browning is like. If anyone else would like to give me info or opinion I would appreciate it. Does anyone know about the schools? Are they up to the same standards as the schools in the midwest?

Pertinent Question
I've never lived any place higher than Virginia, although I've visited. How bad are winters around Browning and what kind of clothes should bring/not bring? Thanks.

Browning has the distinction of holding the record for largest 24 hour temperature change in the world. From 40 degrees down to 60 below zero. 100 degree temp change... not bad.
Anyway, winter temperatures average 25 for the high, 6 for the low. Which is cold even by MT standards.
