Default Thought we'd make it through the summer...

without getting smoked out but I guess it's not to be. Started getting a hint last night and we're really smelling it now. Looked like a blow up somewhere behind Big Mountain but looks can be deceiving.... My other half said you could really see it from the park yesterday.

There is something beyond Lolo Pass that's smoking up the Missoula and Bitterroot valleys. Nothing big yet and rain on the way, unfortunately with lightening.

Go to InciWeb for fire info around the country, a great resource. We had to drive through the big draw a couple of weeks ago and saw this one close up (cough cough ) ! They call this fire the deep draw fire but the draw is known locally and on maps as the big draw.
Well I tried to post a link to this fire but it wont work so just google Montana inciweb and you can get the skinny on all the fires burning right now.

We had one start yesterday NW of Manhattan also. Really hazy and hot today, but the fire is under control.

There have been several local grass fires in our area that never made it onto the InciWeb site because they were snuffed out by the local volunteer departments so quickly. Oh and thanks for the right link Reziac, and how is that elusive little furry critter doing these days. Is he kept in a cage or is there a leash strong enough to hold it! Don't dare to post a pic of that critter again or we'll all get nightmares and it'll be your fault !!!

JetMech72 is on a distinguished road
I just got back to Havre from an extended weekend in Hamilton. The Bitterroot/Selway has several fires burning, but it was clear in the Valley until yesterday when this storm system started blowing the smoke into the valley, coupled with a new fire up the Curlew Mine area near Stevensville. There is a fire south of the Park near East Glacier,,,according to some signs placed on Hwy 2. I couldn't really see any columns of smoke thanks to the storm system, but I could smell the smoke. A friend of mine on the Bitterroot Hotshots had been fighting a fire in the Flathead, but I don't know exactly where. There are fires, but thankfully it is a normal fire-season and this massive storm system did bring lots of rain.

I checked all the links before I posted and nothing new was showing. Turns out that there's a few fires in the "bob" that are laying smoke into the Flathead so says the news.
On a side note Rickers, I think I saw your twin in Smiths yesterday..

Once a guy came up to me and starting calling me "Gary" ! I just couldn't convince him I wasn't his long lost friend Gary ! I must have a generic "dude" look or something.
I didn't have my camera with me while driving past the big draw fire and cussed myself out for forgetting it. Fires are good ! I love watching things burn like being hypnotized flames of the campfire. I watched a closed down sawmill burn once, it was quite a sight. It is quite scary when a fire threatens your property and you don't have any insurance ! The "Chippy Creek" fire last summer was right up the ridge from our Hot Springs place and we watched the huge flames from our front porch.
