Sadly I was never a girl scout I've been trying to make sure that I am prepared for the cold, but I hear it's quite windy there and I'm not sure what other things I should be thinking of in that regard. Any tips?

Be sure that you have shoes/boots with good traction for the winter. When it snows then blows like crazy there you will be walking on ice more than you'll be walking on anything! We sure don't want you becoming a PATIENT of the hospital, do we?????

That's actually a good point. You can buy (I'm not kidding) "boot chains" from Amazon or other retailers, and I recommend them. You strap them over your boots and you stick real good on slick ice. They're not expensive and well worth it.

Are you allowed to have chains on your tires? Thanks for the tip about the boot chains-I will definitely look into those!

You can put chains on your tires but you only use them when it's really bad out. They wear quickly and you run the risk of throwing them if you drive all the time. (Please - if your not experienced in winter driving conditions, consider some educational opportunities before moving to Montana, your life is at risk here). I think studs work better than chains (you still can use chains if you have studded tires) but you have to take your studded tires off in the summer so you need two sets of tires and wheels.

[goes to look]
Is "Old Person" a common Blackfeet surname, or is it the same family that I remember being Generally In Charge of A Lot Of Things way back in the 60s and 70s??

Funny thing.. Browning may be a cold dusty nowhere, but I still only have good memories of the place. Of course, I never lived there, just passed through and spend a few afternoons watching tribal dancing (and isn't there a good museum in town too??)

I may be a little late for helping but have you considered living in East Glacier? It is only 10 miles from Browning and talk about living in the mountains directly at the foot of some of the prettiest country on Earth. And you only have to worry about trouble if your at a house party in the middle of the night so you're not gonna need a concealed weapon although bear spray is a must to have well hiking and backpacking. The bears are actually coming into Browning these days as they are taking back a lot of their historic range. Just a few random tips hope they helped any Q's?

Did you ever take the job in Browning??? I was talking to a friend today about teaching school in Browning, he's looking into it. He comes from the reservation schools in South Dakota, I told him to go for it, it could be a great experience.

To each his own, but I would definitely recommend against teaching in Browning. The experiences I've had with the schools there weren't good. DM me if you want specifics.
