Default Lookin for Cop jobs on Mt

Hello all
Im from St Cloud Mn and i graduated last summer for law enforcement. I have a desire to live out of state since i have never done that. Since the competition for police jobs are fierce in mn sometimes 120 applying for a few positons i thought i'd try Montana. Also i'd be open to working Detentions aswell. IM a EMT and a Wildland Firefighter and would like to utilize those skills in a job aswell. I was thinking Bozemen, Gellatin County or Billings but would be open to anywhere. Im a little disappointed in the pay but what is the cost of living, utilities, realstate ect. Oh one thing....HUNTING and SNOWMOBING is a must.... I mean i want to take off from my driveway to go buzz some trails and powder and have great access to big game, waterfoul and upland game. Hopefully im not to unreasonable

anyone with any suggestons would be great

regards

Brent

Yeah, uh, get ready for some unpleasantness in the pay scale/cost of living ratio. I have several friends in LE and firefighting and all do double and triple duty at least at first to make it here.

As I've posted before, there are darn few people I personally know here that make it easily on one job - most all who are very successful at least at first have several irons in the fire and have to spend more time looking up at the mountains from work rather than playing. Don't get me wrong, there are exceptions to that rule and the economic climate here is some better than it used to be. That varies, of course, from area to area in the state. A lot of due diligence is required to make a choice that will make your run a good one.

Plus side is, if you have more than one talent or specialty such as LE/firefighting you have a leg up on much of the competition. As you spend time in the state, you'll develop contacts that will help you root out the better paying and more stable work. And if your skill level is high, you're a good learner, and not afraid to work it won't be long time before your rep will be such that the going is not near as tough.

Good luck to you if you head out this way, and if you need a contact DM me and I can give you a friend in the local FD who might be able to give you more and better info than I can.

Motana sounds like it is the place for you. I know Great Falls wasn't listed on your choice of place to move but I have seen billboards around talking about hiring...check it out...Go to Great falls Tribune...

The private prison at Shelby may have openings. There is always the Border Patrol but they normally make you do the southern border before transferring north. They do make exceptions though. Customs hires directly for northern border positions. I would flood the whole state with your resume and see what sprouts !

Sure the prison has openings. They are only about 55 officers short(SERIOUSLY)! If you can put up with crappy benefits, 60+ hour work weeks, working on a days notice, not being able to use your personal and vacation time, work-schedule changes without any notice, boredom, no lunch or even a break for 12 straight hours, horrible training(actually, no training), snobby administration dept., cheap uniforms that constantly need repair, inmates that get to tell you what to do(seriously huh?), having to keep safe from inmates AND co-workers, then hey$10.77/hour may just be worth it to you! I promise you WILL get a job if you apply. They will find a way for you to pass a drug test. You will pass your physical. You cannot fail the so called training class. Good luck!

I was reading the Cut Bank newspaper the other day and noticed this ad. I don't know if it will help, but I thought I would post. Good luck!

MONTANA HIGHWAY PATROL is recruiting for Trooper Positions (Entry Level and Lateral Transfer). Obtain application materials at Job Service, The Internet, or by calling 406-444-3259 or 1-877-8-PATROL. Closing date 10/10/08.

Hey Mattman3seven You sure got that right about the prison needing people badly ! I know of a person (a former neighbor) who had a buddy (A clean buddy) pee in a condom for his pee test and he knew even taped to his leg it would test too cool so he taped a hand warmer packet over it and it made the sample too hot. He got through the pat-down but they caught him because it was way too hot. They let him know they were on to him and hired him anyway ! Jeeze !!! Nobody will get away with that kind of B.S. if applying to the highway patrol !
