But isn't it kinda hard to have a root cellar on a boat? Where would you put up canned goods? Also while it's nice sitting off the Embarcadero listening to concerts I've not seen many elk there only the occasional deer walking through GG park and they take a real dim view of you taking one to eat so how would you eat any meat...

I didn't mean my post to be taken like that ! I meant that I admire folks with homes that allow them to go for long periods of time with out having a store down the block, and folks who can hunt well and do for themselves during catastrophes. But now that you mention it, a person living on a boat can't just get by living on seafood alone. My sister sailed from San Fransisco to Hawaii in 21 days and they had all kinds of caned and dry food for the trip. The problem was that they couldn't seem to catch any fish that were small enough to bring aboard safely. I was able to store potatoes and onions on my boat for very long periods of time. Either the freaking world falls apart or it doesn't, either way I like living on boats. If the world just merrily goes it's merry way and all the threats simmer down, then the boat allows you to live large on a poor man's salary. If the world fall apart into anarchy a boat could be your ticket to survival. My sister is living on a very large trimaran right now and loving it. Plus sailing is just plain fun.
