Default Shelby

Anyone know anything about Shelby, Montana? I'm interested in applying for a job there at the privately-ran prison, and am just wondering about the area...housing, entertainment, etc. Can anyone help? Thanks. EIC

I've always liked Shelby myself. It is flat country (read lots of wind) but the people are real nice and seem to have that small town attitude. As far as entertainment goes there really isn't any. Your closes "big" town is going to be Great Falls. The good news is Shelby is a rather inexpensive town to live in. Houses can still be had for $80-$100 thousand. The school system is really good, which will be great if you have kids. Shelby is your average American small town.

Shelby is VERY quiet. A dozen casino/bars, one Mexican eatery and only a few other American style. One movie theater. A Pamida (tiny WalMart-like store). IGA & Albertson's groceries. BNSF railroad intermodal portal (very noisy horn blowing at night). North and east sections are trailer homes but quiet, south and west are regular homes with the best up on the O'Haire Blvd hills. Two Tru-Value hardwares. State pen, golf course, Marias River Rec area are all south and west of town. Senior center and home. Courthouse (Toole county seat). All utilities (water, elec, gas) charge a basic fee even if you use little or none. Water is very good and I hear improvement plans. 3-Rivers and Bresnan cable/internet. Some housing and lots available (see Bootlegger and High Plains websites). Citizens are mostly mid to elderly; kids are almost non-existent on the streets. Most all are very friendly. Hope that helps! I've posted a few pictures and hopefully will appear on city-data page for Shelby soon. Website: http://www.shelbymt.com
