It can be nice and it can be hideous depending on what kind of mood Mother Nature is in that day. Look up the stats or search this site using keywords Havre climate or weather. Havre is on the High-line and the winters can get colder than you can imagine, the summers can get hotter than you can imagine also even being as short as they are.

January 29, 2008
High Temp: -0.9F
Low Temp: -29.9F
Average Temp: -19.9F
Dewpoint: -27.6F
Wind Speed: 6.5 Knots
Precipitation Amount: 0.01 Inches
Snow Depth: n/a
Observations: Snow/Ice Pellets

It can get down right cold here. We were lucky and the winds weren't as bad as they were in Glasgow that day. We had a windchill of about 45 below while Glasgow saw 60 below. Not to worry though I'm sure we'll see windchills around 60 below this year.
We didn't get hardly any snow last winter, only 3 good snow storms. Hopefully this year we'll see more snow. As dry as it was in the Bears Paw Mountains this summer, we were very lucky to not have any forest fires. One thing that I have learned about the weather on the Hi-Line, is that you'd better be prepared to drive on solid ice covered highways. They will plow them, but the wind constantly blows a light dusting of snow across the blacktop and it produces a layer of ice. NOT fun to drive on. Chinook winds don't help that situation either. I've seen the temperature go from 10 below to 40 above....over a lunch break, melting the snow and then freezing that water again before the sun even goes down. It's nutz. I had my Bronco parked on the street and the run-off from the melting snow filled the gutter, then froze solid and I had to use my Powerstroke to pull the Bronco out of the ice.

I believe you're right and I was hinting that out of state folks may be moving in and then moving right back out after suffering through a Montana winter !
