Clarification--- the rez was opened to homesteading abour 1910. Lake County (which covers most of the rez) has about a 70 percent "white" population according to the census. A good number of the kids in Charlo are from old homesteading families or people who bought out the original homesteaders. Some of the non tribal families have been here a long time - even before the rez was opened to homesteading.

I think there are more than 70 % white on the Flathead. I think it's over 75 % now (I may be wrong) But I've lived on the Flathead res for over 11 years and know that most of the bullying that I hear about from my neighbors is the Indian kids picking on a few white kids. I have a neighbor kid who is Mexican and he got picked on by both the Indian bullys and the white bullys at the Hot Springs school so bad that he is being home schooled now.
