My husband recently accepted a job in Ronan and we are beginning the process of house-hunting. Driving through the area this past weekend, I was disheartened to see the lack of street maintenance. I probably couldn't count the number of potholes we tried to avoid. My questions is why and is the local government doing anything about it?

Default hmm

Perhaps they are awaiting a spring to show up. I know out here we are awaiting the road to dry and hopefully patch our neighborhood road where it meets the county road.. Or all the money is going to the 93 highway project.. I think the first is more likely tho.

I don't know about Ronan specifically, but all of Montana has potholes in the spring. You oughta see 10th Avenue South in Great Falls after a long winter of freezing and thawing breaks up the surface. You could lose a whole VW in the average pothole (and you probably think I'm exagerrating..

The other thing about street maintenance -- you can either have extremely high property taxes and perfect streets, or you can have occasional rough streets and more-rational property taxes. Pick one.

I think I heard once we have more gravel roads that any other state... be glad there is any pavement at all. I happen to live on a dirt road, I'd trade a pothole covered road to that.

9 months of winter, and 3 months of bad skiing

About 40 years ago we were driving through... I forget if it was Circle or Jordan, but whichever one was smaller at the time... the highway pavement ended at the edge of town, and started at the other side again as we left town. Pavement? Who's got the tax dollars to pay for that?!

What you see right now is about average - a little worse in the winter. Was told by one of the local businesses that roads don't have a good base so its an on going problem. And welcome to the Ronan area.

Does anyone have pics of Ronan? My Honey and I are looking into buying the Featherly residence, LumiVista Bed and Breakfast. Anyone been up there? How is the town? How are the people, the weather, the cost of living, what kinds of stuff is there to do? We are sick of California where it is October 23 and 100 degrees out. Endless summer. So we figured why not travel to the extreme of endless winter. Any info would be appreciated.

Default Ronan

We do realize it is on an Indian Reservation. Since Ronan is on an Indian Reservation, what exactly does that mean? I don't mean to sound ignorant, but we want to be sure before we buy a Bed and Breakfast there that it is a good idea. Are there any restrictions on living due to it being on an Indian Reservation?
