Default Butte

My husband and I are looking to move to Montana, probably around Butte to be near his family, is this a good idea? I've been there and I have realistic expectations as far as looks, weather and the big mining but what about the quality of life? Can we actually expect to survive there, as a construction worker and accountant? I would ask the family but they are a little biased, as they all want us to move there.
Thanks for any information you could give me, it will really help make up our minds on if we move from Boise.
