....and also during different seasons! We were in and out of here several times a year for multiple years before making the move. in all kinds of weather.....including snow and ice.
Go to SF Bay Area, Henry...lots to do, places to see: close to mountains, coast, gambling, so cal attractions, scuba diving, etc......gangs, thugs, drugs, graffiti, 13 working gangs from my end of the county.....yeah.....such friendly people. Beautiful areas.......too bad it's not safe enough to go out anymore....can't even wave at people.....I find SW Montana to be very friendly to those of us with manners, consideration of others and the right attitude to blend in.

The OP sounds like a local who is trying to discourage others from moving to MT.

And as for trees and wildlife/mountains there is more beauty in western Washington, northern California and Oregon then there is here short of the tiny fragment of mountains and trees in western montana, and what you can see of Idaho on the western sky scape.
They should divid the state, 1/4 of montana the western montana can still be called montana(mountains) and eastern, the majority of the state can be renamed llano(flat) in spanish because thats what it is flat almost deserty looking plains, if you ask me this state is a hell hole.
Cost of living is beginning to rival an oregon/eastern washington based housing market, and the job market/economy even with the troubled times in the U.S. or even the world rivals a third world country, stay away from montana. When you do find a job if your from out of state they won't give it to because they hate californians, washingtonians and any other who isn't from Montana, if you come here change your plates quick

Some of us do not think mountains are so great. Some of us prefer the flat lands where you can see for a hundred miles. Some of us appreciate the natural beauty that we have instead of whining about someplace else. I am not from Montana, but if I moved there, I dang sure would not be acting like some spoiled whiny brat. Small wonder they don't like you much.

20yrsinbranson, What is the name of the oriental fiddle player that has the show there?
My sister went to college near Branson (in Bolivar) and when I was a kid (while she was in college.. we are 7 years apart) I played in a fiddle contest in Branson and went on stage after the show to play the "Orange Blossom Special" after the contest. My folks are always reminding me of the event, but I was so young at the time that I don't remember the details. I remember that my folks felt like it was a big deal, and the people I met there were really cool about it. I can see the faces, but have a hard time with names.. any help would be appreciated.
As for the meaning of the thread... Some of us get crotchety because of how fast things change. We are used to doing work with a handshake. Sometimes people move in and say one thing and mean another, taking advantage of the good nature that MUST remain here. That is a hard thing to swallow for some folks. People will defend what they believe is right.. As for Montana right now, it's a scary thing. We have gangs trying to set up "unspoiled" territories, real estate douchebags trying to make as much money as possible and rich cats trying to find a safe place to move out of fear that they can't keep their own hometowns safe. It really shows a lot about the state of our nation.
Right now Montana needs to stand her ground, and not let the douches and lawyers and big money interests plant seeds... Plant the wrong seeds and the next thing you know you are asking for help to put out the fire. Money can't buy everything.
I'd like to hear other thoughts on this.

you sound like a troll/and or idiot-lets see-the Beartooth range are the highest mountains in Montana 12,000+ feet and are located in the South Central part of the state-we relocated to Billings from Colorado and have found the people to be very friendly-and the country around here is extremely beautiful-sandstone bluffs-Pondreosa Pine/Sage/Yucca-
no moss or mold here-sorry

I'm not the person you asked, but I'll answer your question if you don't mind. The fiddle player is Shoji Tabuchi from Japan. My son-in-law's sister and her family have a musical group in Branson. They play with Andy Williams. Not bad for a family from Wyoming!!!

My friend and I were having this conversation just last night after hearing that Echo Lake store that's been here since the 1800's burned to the ground and in our opinion is very suspicious in origin.
My friends family has been here for 70 years or more and we were discussing the impact of people moving here over the last 10 years or so and what we've noticed with respect to crime and general attitudes and how the former has sky rocketed/gotten more violent and the latter has declined. I know that when we first started coming here 8-9 years ago and even as recent as 5 years ago major crime was pretty much non-existant, there were no armed robberies, pretty much no home burglary, no real road rage incidents and only the occasional car theft. Most crime was of the minor sort like fights, petty theft or DUI. Now you can't leave anything unlocked or unattended, can't trust that if you walk to your neighbors house that your house will remain untouched if you dare leave it unlocked and wouldn't even think of leaving your car runing while you run into the UPS store to drop something off anymore.
So the above being the case wouldn't one think that people who've been here for longer than 6 years or so would resent what the population explosion has brought to their once peaceful towns?

Thats it!! Mr. Tabuchi, GREAT fiddle player!
That's awesome that your family plays down that way. One of these years I'm going to take my boy down to check it out. Thanks for the info, I was going crazy trying to remember.

I know people move out here in hopes that their kids change etc... but the problem is they are bringing that crap here now and doing more harm than good.
Too bad we can't hang some of these "gangster" types off the interstate signs so people would know we are not going to put up with that kind of crap.
I hope this downturn in the economy discourages people from flocking out here, we need to get used to all the new folks that are already here and get some infrastructure built to manage things better before it's too late. (I wouldn't argue if the pushy types of people or wannabe gangster types started to move away either.)
