"Semitool Inc. workers learned Tuesday that the company will effectively shut down for three weeks and be cut back to a skeleton production crew."

Northwest Montana Daily Inter Lake > News > Local Montana (http://dailyinterlake.com/articles/2008/12/10/news/local_montana/news_8771080882_01.txt - broken link)

Ouch! Semitool is one of the desireable "light industrial" employers that the Flathead tried to recruit for many years. The article says they've laid off about 8% of their employees in addition to the 3 week shut down.

My son's friend works there and as of last night he didn't know about this, hmm, merry chrismas right?
We've noticed a big uptick in people looking for work lately, people walking into the pharmacy where my wife works and asking about work which has never taken place before, in fact 2 in one day.
I've seen several people at our grocery store filling out apps as well. I've gotta say that for those that have work HANG ON TO IT no matter what because if you're looking now it's not going to be easy...

Where I work now my group is on mandatory (paid) overtime. Many of my coworkers are a little miffed by it, but I can't complain because so many other places are laying off right now.

Having a steady income is a great Christmas present in my book!
