We were in Billings from Wed.-Sun. for Christmas. Oh my gosh, I've never seen so many cars stuck in Billings! I lived there for 14 years before moving this past summer. The main streets were plowed, but where people were getting stuck was at the intersections of side streets & main streets where the snow was piled up from the plowing. We were all over town and all of the cars that were stuck were both front wheel or rear well drive and most of them were low profile. We took our "new to us" Ford Escape and it just plowed right through everything without a problem (not in 4 wheel drive). I think a lot of that had to do with the ground clearance. I'm just glad I traded in the Grand Am for the Escape about a month ago. Bottom line, in my opinion, is that most of the time you don't need a 4x4 or higher clearance vehicle in Montana, but you sure did this week! So I don't think I'd ever go back to a low profile car, just in case!

Talking what I gave up.....

I had to give up my Mustang........both, due to lack of clearance and lack of 4X4.....I live here at 4300' and just the other day I came uphill around a corner in drive and 4-wheel and blam!!!!! blowing snow had been busy all night on the open flat. Dropped the Jeep into 1st and pulled right out. Yup, made the right choice.
