Shelby is not a truckers town! It has a truck stop, but most small towns on the interstate do. Shelby is a pretty nice small town. We have about 3K people here, several good churches(if that's you're thing), and the schools are really good(and extremely clean and relatively new). They offer free after school daycare until 6 PM daily as well, which is really, really nice! There's two grocery stores, a Pamida(variety store), and quite a few hardware stores as well. There is a very nice civic center which is relatively cheap. It has a very nice gym and b-ball court. There's about 9 or 10 restaurants, including a Pizza Hut and Subway. The rest are are all locally owned places. There are several banks, including a Wells Fargo, which I recommend setting up before you move! The rest of the banks are all local.
Is your husband going to be working out of Sweetgrass? If so, Shelby is pretty much your only choice as far as larger towns. Cut Bank and Conrad are nearby, but Shelby is already a 37 mile trek to Sweetgrass. There is a small town called Sunburst where many border people reside. It is very small(around 400-500 people). Not much there, but it is only a few miles from Sweetgrass. The schools are highly recommended there as well. There are lot's of small towns nearby, but finding a place to rent would be your biggest problem.
Don't let anyone fool you about Shelby. It is a very friendly town, indeed! One thing that does "bother" some people is the rail yard. BNSF has a changing station in Shelby, so it can get a little noisy at times with all the trains and horns, but it doesn't bother me at all! You don't even notice it after a little bit.
Oh and there are ZERO stoplights in town! Let me know if you would like some pictures of the area!
