Life anywhere is about what you make it I guess. If you are happy where you are at, you'll probably be happy here too. If you hate the place you're at, you'll probably hate it here too.

Preston, Idaho
Muley, Montana
helena, Montana
Boise, Idaho
Fairview, Wyoming
Jackson Hole, Wyoming

These are all great places to live but there's probably just as many in the East.

That depends on whether you get involved in the community or not. Plus do you constantly remind every one about how much better it was where you used to live? If you don't, Then maybe Montana is for you. If you want to live remote, don't expect to many jobs. We are starting into the recession here now just like the rest of the US. The difference is that most rural Montanans are self reliant. You definitely want to plan and prepare if you move here. Most rural Montanans can't just run to the store for small items. The distance is to far for that. Good luck on your search.May I suggest that the farther away from the Flathead and the Bitterroot and any larger cities, Missoula, Bozeman, Butte, Billings, Great Falls, and Helena., the cheaper the housing will be. But be aware that very few areas of Montana have not been "discovered" by out of Staters. This has driven up the cost of living in Montana pretty significantly.

There are others who could probably answer this better but I think one could still get a pretty nice home in a lot of areas for well under $200k. In some places you might could still do it under $100k but that would put you further out from the hub of activity.

It really depends;

Life in Missoula, Kalispell, Billings, Missoula, Bozeman, Boise, Cde Alene, Cody, Cheyenne, and Salt Lake can be vastly different or very similar depending on your circumstances.

Your talking about an 800mile radius and population bases ranging from a few people to a few million. We can probably be of help if you're a little more specific.

Oh, they all get inversions, that's probably the one similarity.
