I keep waiting for 5 feet of snow to fall like everyone told me about last summer, but so far I only see a little inch here and there. What's up with that?

Well last spring it turned out pretty good for snow around here-- we are still hoping for some big flakes to fall. I have some hungry cows, it better snow!

I guess I was expecting a massive amount. This seems no different than Denver (except it doesn't really melt like there). Everyone told me to brace myself when I moved from Arizona to here, but so far, not so bad. The -20 days are not the greatest, but it's not like I'm outside swimming or anything.

I thought the snow would be the killer. But it seems (knock on wood) that MTDOT seems to get the roads cleared up pretty quick.

I'm in the NW side of the state, FYI.

You should be prepared for some heavy stuff in the spring. A very significant amount of Montana's moisture is counted on in March, April, and May.

Anyone know how our moisture levels are so far this winter? I'm in the Helena area, I'd sure like to see us have a good year.

This is a great website with a moisture map that updates every day and is easy to read:

according to that we are above normal right now... we normally get dumped on with rain in June, if that rule holds true we might come out alright this year.

Where at in the NW ? I'm just west of Kalispell in the hills and so far we have gotten every bit of 5' of snow so far this year here. Before the warm stuff hit about a month ago, we had at least 3 1/2' on the ground. Ever time it snowed it was dumping 6" - 12" for a while there... I loved it ! Don't so much now that everything is a hockey rink ! The 3 - 4 inches we got last night really helped out the ice situation though.
