Default Licensing in Billings

We need to put license plates on our vehicles in Billings, MT

Do I understand right? You have to pay a registration fee AND
then buy a license plate? And you have to pay registration fee every year,
but then you pay a small amount to renew the license plate?

Plus them some county option tax
and possible other taxes on that too?

And if you want a special plate it's extra.

Can someone give me an example of what they pay each year?

Have you considered going to the agency that provides the licenses to inquire about the costs for your specific vehicles?

I was just about to suggest that! If you call the Yellowstone Co. Treas. Office and give them the make, model, year & VIN of your vehicle they can give you the figures. My bro-in-law worked there for several years and people called with questions all the time, according to him. If you aren't in the Billings area you can look up their phone # via the web.

FYI, if your vehicle is 11 years old or more, you can get Permanent license plates. You will NEVER have to renew the registration aslong as you own it!
ALL trailers get permanent plates.
ALL motorcycles get permanent plates.
ALL boats get permanent registration (however, you have to get a new sticker now and then, due to Coast Guard regulations, but the sticker is free!)
Permanent plates on '94 Dodge CTD Ram 3500, about $253.
Annual renewal for '06 Jeep Liberty, about $342
Permanent plates on '95 Tioga 29 foot Class C motorhome, about $270.
Annual renewal for '06 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon about $371. (includes title transfer fees)
Permanent plates for '82 AMC Eagle SX/4 about $176 (includes title fees)
Fees coded 02, 07, 08, 14, 61, and 62 are tax deductible as property taxes paid, on both Federal and State tax returns. Not all vehicles will have all those fees.
I hope this gives you some idea.
Special license plates (vanity, veteran, school, etc.) are $10 to $20 per year, I think.
