Helena?
i'm a single, 29 year old liberal male. i'm looking for jobs in montana and it seems i can only find stuff in helena. i was hoping for missoula, kalispell, whitefish, etc but the jobs don't seem to be up there. i was looking in that area for what it can offer as far as camping, hiking, fly fishing and how beautiful it is.
so how does helena compare? what are the people like?

The other places you mentions are more touristy but Helena has just as much to do. The fly fishing in Helena is not as good but with a little drive you can be right in the middle of it.
As far as your political persuasion goes, you should fit in fine. This is still a conservative state but there are a lot of liberals around. I tend to think there are more libs in Helena than many of the other places in the state because we are the government hub.

You'll find work. It is the totally unskilled and folks in construction and manufacturing who are feeling the pinch so far. The good restaurants and walmarts are still packed ! Good luck to you.

You sound like you'd fit right in here in Helena. In Helena you can get on to some of the best hiking/mountain biking trails in Montana during your lunch hour! Many folks your age are starting to move in. There are a couple of brew houses for a beer after work and there plenty of cultural events on winter weekends.

We have few I guess but not many. A few hippies never hurt anyone.

Start looking for a job with DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality). They could very well have something there.
