Post Housing in or near Gardiner??

I am a young, professional, single person in the middle stages of applying for a job at Yellowstone National Park as a permanent (year-round) employee. This means that I will be responsible for my own living arrangements and will not be living in the dorms on the park grounds.

Being that the position is full-time and year-round, I need to live near the North Entrance located at Gardiner, MT. I have tried finding rental opportunities via the internet, but have found little information.

I am looking for anyone with any information of AFFORDABLE housing within 40 miles of the North entrance (Pray, Emigrant, Corwin Springs???). This should not include vacation homes or rentals that will drastically inflate when the Park opens.

Any helpful knowledge/recommendations will be greatly appreciated!!

Finding 'AFFORDABLE' rentals in the area will be difficult. There are plenty of vacation homes for sale in the Paradise Valley of the Yellowstone River and most are in that condition because the occupants tried to spend one winter there! It takes a hardy sole as the winters are severe.

I'd google Livingston Realtors and see If they can help. Some folks who are trying to sell their vacation homes might be dropping the prices because of the economy and declining value of homes. And some might be willing to rent to a responsible party.

Thanks for the reply, grizzfan. I'm originally from the hi-line, so the winters will definitely not bother me; they'll most likely be a welcoming with the wooded and mountainous views the area has to offer (quite the contrast to the plains).

You should keep and eye on craigslist, they have about 90+ ads for housing everyday. Also try putting an ad in - its free, and people do read them. Thats how i found my place, only took me 2 weeks and i have livestock and pets. Just make sure you state how many animals you have and are reachable - i.e. pick up your cell (otherwise let them know when the best time to call is.) Hope this helps, Good luck!
