Correctamundo... The police ENCOURAGE carrying too (especially women) because they know 99 times out of 100 they won't get there exactly when needed. MT is a BIG spread out place. That came right out of the sheriffs mouth.

I couldn't find the 'edit' button for my previous post here. I made a typo and meant to type AREA not 'are'. Can't you edit a post after a certain time frame?
Anyway... a gun is a TOOL aka an object and it can be used for good and bad purposes - that depends on the PERSON USING the TOOL.
Criminals might use the gun or ANY other TOOL or OBJECT to do the dirty deed.
Victims and/or potential victims would use the SAME TOOL or object or GUN to protect/defend THEMSELVES, their loved one, their dog, a stranger IN NEED and/or their HOME/PROPERTY from the criminal or perp or TYRANT. Think of politics now when it comes to tyrants and country!
Tools and objects do NOT have a WILL of their own or a pulse... it takes a human being or well trained monkey to squeeze the trigger and/or do the dirty deed or to STOP the criminal from hurting the innocent victim! I have written this for years and am VERY involved in gun/political issues and PRO GUN RIGHTS. Everyone has the right to self defense - it is a God given and/or natural right - call it what you may.
When it comes to accidents using any TOOL or OBJECT - most of the time it is due to stupidity, ignorance, the user not paying attention or following the PROPER directions of 'said tool'. Safety issues! Sometimes... things malfunction. SOME people want to blame an inanimate object or TOOL when they should be blaming the PERSON aka USER of said tool in MOST accidents!
The RKBA issue and the Second Amendment have nothing to do with 'hunting'!
What part of 'shall not be infringed' don't people understand? If you don't LIKE guns or WANT a gun or WANT to shoot a gun - don't. It is very simple. Your choice as in picking out a vehicle if you choose to OWN and drive one or NOT and WALK, RIDE on a bus, train and/or FLY!
However... do not try to stop or make others who want to use these tools/firearms in the shooting sports, have something for SELF DEFENSE and/or to hunt with not be able to use them because YOU don't like it due to some PC or political view.
If you feel Offended in seeing a lady open carry with a six shooter on her leather belt/holster, using a shoulder holster with a gun in it or seeing a rifle being carried or seeing someone who opens or conceals carries until they take off their jacket - turn your head and don't LOOK at the, gasp, gun!
I will not tell YOU to own a gun or force one in your hands. Don't tell me that I can't own one, pack one on my body or feel guilty because God forbid the P.C. anti gun crowd might feel OFFENDED or scared if they see a GUN!
When you are in the woods you have just as much of a chance as seeing a 2 legged perp as you would a 4 legged creature that might try to attack you. The illegal drug and LEGAL Rx drug runners are in the 'woods' too. So are kidnappers, rapists, robbers, killers and nut jobs! Some even knock off hikers, campers and their dogs in some cases. Main stream news not just alternative news sites!
CALL 911 and die. Some places don't even have cellular service due to the terrain, woods, mountains, etc. ALL over the country not just in MT! Many people choose NOT to have cell telephones. Response time in MT can be just as bad as in some CITIES and even in RURAL areas back on the east coast and in farm/lake country! That was with a land line - home telephone! Been there - done that! Some places did not even have 911 telephone service in the 70's and 80's too. You had to call the operator for her to dial LD to the Sheriff's Department. Some cities have a LONGER waiting time too - check out those facts when it comes to response times or even being put on hold! This is in current times not just back x amount of YEARS!
Excuse my speech. Off with the high heels and down from my soap box!

I can be liberal on some issues, but you and I see eye to eye on guns.

I guess we can both relate to that. If I had known I would feel like the outsider, I would have started the "Out of Stater Society"

I remember when the street thug's tool of choice was the baseball bat. It was every bit as effective as a gun. We didn't ban baseball because of this, and lo, the world did not end!!
The Second Amendment is not so we could defend ourselves against each other, but rather to ensure that at need, we could defend ourselves against an oppressive government.

Ya, what she said.
Dateline just did a news story on that psycho in VA that hunted umpteen hikers, campers and fisherman on the Appalachian trail over a number of years. Whackjobs are everywhere ! MT isn't any different. Other than we shoot those bastards ourselves .

Catherine, I am a happily married man but I am finding myself strangely attracted to you.
My wife and I love to go out shooting. She can shoot with the best of them. With a 10/22 rifle she is down right deadly.

Well I moved here from Virginia about 2 years ago. The wife got a partnership offer. I was already a redneck and from a rural area, so I fit right in. I like the hunting and fishing and love the mountains. We are planing on buying a house when the prices drop to a reasonable point and a friend assured me that would happen either next year or the year after.

A frustrating thing to me is when people do things without consideration of others. Example: Last fall right before hunting season a friend and I went out to our spot that we like to sight in our rifles and do some clay shooting to get ready. As we are heading out, we find that our access road is blocked by some guy cutting firewood, ACROSS THE ENTIRE ROAD. I've got no problem with cutting firewood, but do it in a spot where people can still get around, instead of being a jerk. It's the mindset that people get when they move here, that everything is MINE now. Instead of respecting the people who have lived here and used the land and its resources for a long time.
Granted this goes the other way also, people who have lived here shouldn't try to make it extra difficult for folks new to the area either. We're all here now so we should at least try to work together.
As for the gun rights statements, I carry, but I don't need to broadcast it on a neon sign. Just as those that don't shouldn't throw a fit when they catch a glimpse of someone who does.
Just my opinion.
