Default Montana info needed

Do you have personal property taxes on vehicles? Is it paid every time you register the vehicle? If so, how is it calculated?
Do you do smog checks on vehicles? Thanks.

Light Vehicle Registration and Fees - MT Dept of Justice

This may help you. I don't think there is any DEQ here, thank god! At least not here in the eastern side. Good luck and let us hear back.

No there are no smog checks here. Registration is based on the estimated value of the vehicle until it reaches 10 years old, then in the 11th year you can get a permanent plate. Costs totally depend on what county and school district your in so you'd have to call the county license dept to find out exact costs.

Thank you all for your help. I appreciate it. One more question: Does Montana do good maintaining the roads when it snows or is icey?

State of Montana Road Condition Map

Here is a site I go to for road conditions when I travel, no complaints here, the snow drifts quickly on the eastern side so conditions change fast. I had only driven on the "one inch and the world is coming to an end" Portland snow and I have learned pretty fast how to navigate. PS> my car is about to reach the magic 10 year mark!

Isn't that the truth??!! Here you just learn to drive on the snow and ice.... I learned pretty quickly that the "sanding" they do on Montana roads is quite different than other places. They should call it "graveling" which would describe the size of the material coming out of the spreaders! ha! Never want to travel too close behind vehicles during the winter or you'll be replacing your windshield every year.

Graveling! Exactly how to describe it I have thought over the past two years that a windshield set up would make a killing, but most of us just drive a while with the crack until some of the deer are off the highway

I refer to my windshield as being seasoned... with battle scars . As long as the cracks don't go across my "main" points of vision they are more than welcome to stay .
