Plane crash near Helena-- any news?
Any news or updates on the plane crash near Helena? The gentleman who was flying the plane from Bozeman to Helena is the same guy who crashed a year or so ago.
Last I heard a cell phone tower put the guys downed plane in the Elkhorns near Helena. Search are rescue are looking for the plane-- keep your fingers crossed.

His name is Sparky Imerson. He does a great mountain flying course, and has written several good books on mountain flying. I think he was in a 180. Lets hope they find him in good shape today. -TW232-

Sorry bout the typo.. It's Sparky Imeson. (not Imerson) He did not survive the crash.
My condolences to his friends, family and fellow pilots. He will be missed.

Thats too bad. I followed the story when he crashed last time. Very sad, but the good news is he died doing what he loved.

How is it 17 passengers are dead? Isn't the plane certified to carry far fewer than that? Plane can't legally carry more passengers just because they are children. FAA requires individual seat belts.
Eyewitness testimony is usually unreliable absent some sort of aviation experience but it seems to have been an abrupt stall at an unrecoverable altitude. Pilot may have realized he was too low and attempted to add GA power.
