Distance
Will be driving from Big Sky to Yellowstone (Old Faithfull) and was wondering if anybody has an idea of how long (time & distance) of a drive this is?? Trying to plan our first vacation in your Great State. All comments appreciated.

Its an hour and a half probably. Just to clarify, the majority of yellowstone is in wyoming, not mt. My suggestion is if you have the time get off the beaten path in yellowstone. 95% of the visitors see the same 5% of the park, hence the touristy reputation. Go exploring, you will be glad you did.

Here is a nice site I visit. The photography alone is worth the visit.
Montana's National Parks
Good luck and enjoy yourself!

Big Sky is WAY out of my league, so I have no idea.
Isn't that what Rand McNally Tripmaker and Mapquest are for?

Don't forget, old faithful is closed this time of year. The old man who runs the geyser vacations in Florida in the off season. Doesn't he make it look real?

Take into account what month and time of day on your length of drive. If you line up with the rest of the crowd, both at the gate and in the park, your time of travel can vary greatly. Nice/sunny as opposed to cold/rainy/snowy will also have an effect.
There are days when you can't believe the traffic jams in there. I drive commercially in Yellowstone quite a bit and I have seen that trip take anywhere from an hour to three or more.

Big Sky to West is a really pretty drive. It's about an hour, but you do drive through a portion of the park on the highway before getting to the official west entrance. I do it for work at least once or twice a month from Bozo, and during the summer we sometimes go down, get our work done and fish our way home!
