I like local restaurants.......they are the best! But you have to go to at least one Cracker Barrel if you haven't been to one.

It's Johnny Appleseed time!!

The winter-stored apples' seeds are just rarin' to go, in fact some already have a long root when I cut the apple open.. so now I have two pots full of little baby apple trees, all of two inches tall.

Anyone got a "beer apple" tree in their yard? I'm not sure if this is the same as the Malus dolgo that's normally only used for rootstock, so is seldom seen as a real tree unless the grafted part dies back. It produces fluorescent-red, oblong fruit, typically bears on alternate years, and makes the most wonderful translucent pink jelly. There used to be a few in Great Falls but I've never seen them anywhere else. The fruit is very distinctly NOT round, but barrel-shaped, slightly larger than regular crab apples, and ripens to a shiny pink-red that looks fake compared to other crab apples.

One of the few places selling 'em is Lawyer Nursery in Plains MT!
Product Information

Here's some pictures (was tough to find one that shows the shape of the fruit!)

English version

Strange facts and useless information: the historical Johnny Appleseed is surrounded by apocrypha and generally misinterpreted... he wasn't in the trees and charity business, he was in the hard cider business. But what was a business in the pre-industrial world often isn't even recognised as being "work" today.

I will catch a fish today, I will catch a fish today, I will catch a fish today. Yea right !
I keep telling myself this but it ain't going to happen unless I get my lazy patootie out from in front of this computer and get my tackle box and ugly stick down to the bass hole. We have huge wood ants and I'm wondering if I can tie a live wood ant to a small hook and lure a fish to bite on it ? I'm starting to fold in the barbs on my lures for big fish because I'm starting to feel sorry for them when I remove the hook. Why rip half of the poor things mouth open just to let it go.
If I catch Ol' Walter I'll "shoot" it and post a pic. I will then let it go cuz I'm done with eating big predatory fish and I'm trying to keep away from high fructose corn syrup too for the same reason. I still ain't drinking and have very little chance of falling off the wagon because I'm not sitting on the tail gate, I'm driving my wagon, my wife is riding shotgun and the reins are wrapped around each hand securely.
Now here is a picture for ya all to enjoy. I think I took this picture of shopping cart birds in the parking lot of The Wall-Mart.

Wow, those are some brave birds

Had a crow in with the pool dogs this morning -- it was sitting right next to one of the dogs!! Labs don't think crows are birds. The last of my old crows finally died off (almost 10 years old!) and now I have six new young crows. They weren't quite full-grown when they moved in. I like having 'em around cuz they help discourage the starlings.

Afraid I'm purely a meat fisherman... if I catch it, I eat it!!

Wagon didn't make Conrad today. Stopped in Thompson Lake. Conrad is tomorrow. Gman can finally sign the wagon.
