Sorry for the motorhead hijack, I just had a flashback.
So, anyway....... What the Hedouble hockey stick is a crumpet anyway??
Is that some kind of a foo foo sugar biscuit?

No, no. A crumpet is ... well, it's hard to describe, but it's a bit like an english muffin. But chewier, thicker, spongier. Batter poured and initially cooked on a griddle, later toasted. Delicious with lashings of butter but the buttter has a tendency to dribble down your chin when you bite into it.
It does have a second (slang) meaning.... but we won't go into that here, being as we are in polite company.
