They did manage to produce one surplus queen and a very small swarm a year ago (hardly a quart worth of spare bees), which tried to crawl under the kennel concrete. No, stupid bees, go somewhere you won't get hosed with soap and bleach every morning! Eventually I managed to chase them off and I think they went back into the elms and gave up the notion of forming a new hive entirely.

They follow me around every morning all summer, looking for water. All I have to do is start washing down the kennel and here they come! And I have to put rescue floats in the buckets or they get full of drowned bees.
Did you try putting out a hummingbird feeder full of sugar water?

Well, it's 1:59 a.m. in California, so I know it's later for you guys in other time zones.....but unlike me, who has stayed up wrapping gifts, shopping, buying groceries at 10:00 at night, making a mess in the kitchen, you are all wisely asleep.....

Time for me to wind down so that I can get up and start all over....

Merry Christmas Eve, everybody!

So here I am, been up off and on since about 2 am with a tooth that I think needs a root canal done to it so I figured I'd trip on down to the laundry room at about 6am and do some clothes before the "newbies" to the rv park show up and fill the place up. While watching the dryer spin and letting my mind wander I relize OHHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I didn't get the DW much of anythig for Christmas yet So I'm now procrastinating going out as it's about 30 degrees right now (so much for AZ heat right?) and I've no real clue as to what to get her since we tend to get what we want when we want it.
Hmmmm, off and running I guess to my trusty standby Cost Plus World Market.... Gotta find something, gotta find something.. ohhh my head hurts but that's the least of the things that'll hurt if I don't move on this pronto!!!

This reminds me of the time I asked my wife what she wanted for her birthday. She was on her way out the door to go shopping and I need a hearing aid so I misheard what she said. She answered that she wanted "A day Away" but my ears heard "O'Day Away" and for some reason I thought she was talking about some brand of perfume !
I spent half a day searching internet stores and calling high end stores to find it.

Yeah, they ignored that. Sometimes they're smarter'n average bees (like noticing when I'm spraying water around); sometimes they're dumber'n rocks (like when they'd rather starve). But they're always very quiet gentle bees regardless.

Speaking of O'Day Away (that sounds like a great brand name!) ... my tenant calls Oil of Olay "Oil of Ol'Lady".

OWWW.... I know the song goes "All I want for Xmas is my two front teeth" but don't you think this is a bit more literal than is strictly required?? I could point you at a good dentist in Newhall CA (who comes of a MT family, at that!), but no idea in AZ....

Welcome to the high desert in winter... yep, it gets cold, a lot colder than most folks expect. Flagstaff gets snowed in every once in a while -- up to a couple feet deep! And below-zero temps are hardly unheard-of. We had 21 degrees here this morning (was supposed to get down to 16 but didn't make it that far). Coldest I've seen was -10. Most winters, there's a stretch in Jan. of a week or two where it doesn't get above freezing at all. Plumbers love it.

My house was built in 1956 and hasn't a scrap of insulation (other than what we put in the attic.. gonna have to get it blown into the walls someday). They built the 2nd house in 1958 and by then had learned their lesson -- it's well-insulated!!

Now, you've got about 9 hours to shop for the DW, so best git goin'!

<stops at local rod and gun shack, buys fishing pole>
Look dear, now we can go fishing together!

That works! I tell you, you can not believe how Hand Warmers really help. Electric Hand warmers that are inserted into the handle bars and can be set to Off/Low/High. Man, with warm hands, I can go all night. Well, that and Viagra.
