Here's a picture of a mama Elk Feeding her calf. She stomped a little bit as I passed but the baby kept on feeding until I was well past. This is on tribal land (CSKT), large game hunting is banned for non tribal members but fishing and bird hunting is allowed for white folks with permit. This section of the river is not open to outfitters so floating this river is very peaceful and solitary and if done early in the season, many sheep, deer, elk and bear can be seen up close while floating along.
This Black Bear was on the bank of the same river along with another one a week after I floated past the Elk Cow feeding her baby. There was another bear but my camera (or me) malfunctioned and I didn't get a pic of the other one. He had his front legs crossed and was laying down with his chin resting on his front legs like dogs do.

Great photos both of you. Thanks for sharing.
I just spent an hour on the phone with the nicest, the nicest bar none, technical support person. He just couldn't have been nicer... and he didn't call me a technical nincompoop.

Speaking of Elk, for the first time since we've lived in this house (about 4 1/2 years) we had a real good sized bull Elk in the back yard yesterday morning. Now for those who are familiar with the Columbia Heights area and hwy 206 the silver bullet herd which was/is quite large used to roam all over this area and from what I've heard used to winter in the grove of trees we currently live in but we've not seen them until yesterday.
It's kind of interesting though, when the elk was moving through there were about 6 deer shadowing him and watching what he was up to. I wonder if they're using him for protection or if Elk scare deer so they were making sure he wasn't attacking them?
So our porch has been an interesting place the last couple of weeks, we've had a mountain lion (caught up a tree in C-Falls 2 days ago) 2 peacocks,an Elk and many deer as well as a couple fox... Now all we need is a bear

I would have thought at this time of year there's little danger to deer from a bull elk. His hormones should be on holiday.
Where on earth did the peacocks come from?! (Well, I know where in the world they're from originally, I just wonder how the heck they wound up in your neck of the woods .)
