We just barely felt it out near Rosamond (Edwards AFB) -- like a boat on gentle waves. But here on the calichi bed we hardly feel 'em if they're right underfoot, let alone a couple hundred miles away.

Also discovered the USGS site isn't on DST yet, when I went to report it (there's a thing where you can report "did you feel it?" and various observations). <looking again> I see they've fixed the time thing since I was there this afternoon, now it's right.

Look at this -- there was one report from Billings!
(Click the Responses tab, it's at the top.)

I was only about 10 miles as the crow flies from the 1994 Northridge quake... made my trailer hop straight up and down about 6 inches but it didn't move off the trailer jacks, which was quite a trick if you ask me!!

Whoa, that was some barfight, to cause a magnitude 7 earthquake!!

Those cousins maybe oughta stick to beer, keep the quakes down to around mag 4 or so.

7.2 and there were several strong aftershocks...... I am sure the house got a few more cracks in it yesterday.....will have to look around more today.. I've lived here all my life and am not afraid of them, but it was definitely a big one for sure! Put me in a tornado or hurricane and I'd be pretty nervous. There is no warning with an earthquake......no time to be nervous, I guess. This one lasted quite awhile......slowed down and then picked up more energy.... Sometimes they jerk and sometimes they roll...this one was neither....hard to describe...it had more than one phase to it.

My girl and I were coming home from the doctor and had just pulled into the driveway..(yep, spent a few hours at the doctor on Easter)...for a few seconds, I thought I had turned off the car without it being in park...it felt like the engine was kinda coughing, sputtering, hopping around...I glanced down at the gear shift and then automatically turned the igntion back on......after a few seconds, we looked over at her car, (parked by mine in the driveway), and it was rocking, too... We got out and stood by my car......boy, one had to have sea legs for sure...

A few gallons were sloshed out of the pool.....(and the pool was not that full--several inches below the bricks and patio).... Most of the doors in the house were almost shut.....(they were wide open when we left)... Items on the walls were askew.....

Is Billings on a fault line or something?

In Great Falls, about once a month we'd get up and some of the cabinet doors would be open and pictures askew (great word that), but no one had felt anything. Didn't get that in Bozeman, but every so often we'd hear BANG and the ground would jump sortof like when you go down a little jog and miss a step (like in a dream).

Then there was the day of the big Idaho quake -- 1980ish, I forget exactly -- and reports were the top floor of MSU's highrise dorms swayed by around 15 feet. (Those buildings are on deep pilings -- because the ground there really isn't sufficiently solid for a multi-story building. Otherwise they might have gone over.) I heard it was very "entertaining" for the kids still at home in their dorm that day!! Out in my trailer at Belgrade, I slept through it and didn't feel a thing!

My dogs all slept through the Northridge quake!!! and when I went outside after it was over (to collect water out of the system into buckets, cuz that place didn't have a proper storage tank, and the power was out and who knew when it would be back on) the ones that could be arsed to get up all looked at me like "whatever are you doing up at 4am??!"

Yellowstone is setting on top of a Super Volcano that is approximately 350 miles across. There are several earthquakes a day in Yellowstone and the surrounding area. So yeah, smaller plates shift periodically around Yellowstone. They are called Triggered Quakes. A good quake in Yellowstone will trigger another elswhere.
