I wish I could have been there, I bet I would have run into a few folks that I knew when I used to sell my "cut out coins" at all the gun shows.
I'm willing to give Obuma or Jobama (can't decide which nick name I want to refer to him by) , a fair amount of time to try to boost the economic situation. But I really have very little confidence that anything he does will help us in the long run. But I'm an optimist, not like those paranoid freaks on the West Virginia board's thread about the so called impending meltdown or collapse or whatever they want to call these rough patches. Oh by the way has anyone tried my Fajita recipe that I posted on the "What's for dinner tonight" thread on the food board ? That freaking thread moves at the speed of light !
Good morning all! Well I went out since it was soooo nice yesterday and decided to drop by the tea party downtown. Believe it or not there was over 1000 people there with all manner of signs protesting taxes, proposed gun laws and the national debt. There were some counter protesters for Obama as well. They were a large bunch that took up a whole 2 squares of the sidewalk as there was only 3 of 'em. Yes I mean 3 people holding up we love Obama signs.
I stopped and talked to one of 'em and he was a reasonable sort of person and after a bit wispered to me "I wish Ron Paul had been elected instead of Obama" but this is who we have and we need to support him.
Good to see we still have some neighbors willing to stand up!
Supposed to be warmer today, if y'all will come by and help clean the gutters I'll set out a pitcher of Lynchberg Lemonade (heavy on the Lynchberg) and some corn bread & honey...
Good Lord are you sure you were not raised in the south? I agree with your menu How about a little country ham on the side?

Driving over right now.... The pure isolation here is so good for me. Saw a few shooting stars last night. This morning a woodpecker...no cheap shots now...
A long, long, time ago a hick from the south found herself in ole San Antonio. She had a boyfriend there who marinated EVERYTHING in lime juice. Holy man could that guy cook. Your recipe reminds me of it. Pardon me while I wipe my chin.
What ever happened to him? Well lets say the hick found out he had a wife. He had to make a run for it to the border. I always was a straight shooter. I just never developed a taste for tequila. More of a whiskey in moderation gal.

Weeelllll, we've lived in Atlanta and South of Charlotte and spent a ton of time driving all over both states and TN as well. As soon as the kid graduates he wants to move back to either Charlotte area or TN unless I can talk him into working on a cruise ship as a chef for a while...
Oh, my stepmonster was from Mississippi so I grew up on grits & gravy, gumbo and other fine southern food. I don't think I cooked in what y'all would call a "normal" pan (not cast iron) until I was in my 20's.
When we lived in NC we took a tour of the JD distillery and learned how that precious Jack is made. Did y'all know that until very recently the distillery was in a dry county and they couldn't sell the stuff there? They had to ship it to a wet county if you wanted any. Now they can sell you ONE bottle and it's now the only place in the county to buy booze.
It makes a FANTASTIC bread puddin' as well I might add...
Sur, do stop. You are giving me the vapor's...(faints in the best Scarlett O'Hera imitation...)
Somewhere in my noodle I did know that about the distillery. Still a fun reminder. I have my cast iron that my great auntie gave me from her kitchen, maybe over 50 years old now. Makes killer cornbread, you know you have to get it hot with a little bacon fat, then dump in this batter. Too bad I have not had any Martha White corn meal in decades. I have learned to adapt the Mesa brands from Mexico. Did you ever have any cornbread with "cracklins" in it? My dear departed daddy would sneak into the kitchen at night for a snack of it drenched in buttermilk.
