I agree with Seven of Nine. Any limit is likely to be driven by local ordinances or specific Conditions, Covenants & Restrictions (CC&Rs). For example, in the Mission Valley they have a subdivision 10 miles outside of Ronan in a very rural area selling 20 acre parcels, with a CC&R that states:..."d. No more than three (3) dogs shall be kept at any property on a permanent basis.

However, the Mission Valley is a summer mecca for field trial dog training, and several owners and trainers within a few miles of the subdivision have as many as 10 to 25 dogs.

Your best approach is to first select a few potential locations, and then research any local restrictions. Obviously if you are looking to move within the city limits of Bozeman, Missoula, etc, you are more likely to encounter problems. Good luck.

In general the limit inside an incorporated town or city is two dogs. In general the counties don't have limits, but as someone points out, covenants may trump that. (Tho this has been challenged in court in a couple other states, and dog limits were found unconstitutional.) A few counties, including Gallatin, require a kennel permit if you have 3 or more dogs. Cats are typically not counted.

If the new laws being proposed in Texas pass, dog breeding, and eventually all pet ownership, are OVER for that state -- along with every other state that bows to the AR agenda.

Montana sensibly killed the anti-dog bills that were introduced here this spring.

I know that in Hot Springs they let you have three pets but they don't seem to be willing to specify what a pet can be !
This Black Lab/ White pyrenees cross is my limit for dogs, we used to have four and it was just too much. I had to put the kibosh on my wife bringing home cute puppies.

I would say that the limit for how many dogs you can have is determined by how you keep them and how many your neighbors will put up with. Laws in Montana are rarely enforced unless someone complains.

Awweee, what a sweetie
My neighbors in Oregon had a pair of Pyrenees. They stood out against all that green! Then the neighbor built them a dog house that was shaped like an igloo, did they look like polar bears coming out of it! Gentle giants. I know people over here that keep them on sheep farms. Rickers, go over to the 5 horse thread and look at what they raise.
Happy Easter to you the mrs., and of course peek.

Wow, what a beautiful face. With that look your dog probably gets whatever it wants. Happy Easter to everyone.

Happy Easter to all. Yes she is spoiled. She is a "midnight eater" She waits until she knows we're asleep and she is resigned to the fact that she isn't going to get what we had for dinner, then I hear this slow little crunching, I look at the clock and it always seems to be around midnight. Sometimes she looks like a baby seal or a baby polar bear with her looks.

<hat type="canine professional" duration="40 years">

Are you sure about that? Looks like a purebred Golden Retriever. Pyr and Lab cross would NOT have that type of coat; the Pyr's coat type is recessive to the Lab's type, so would have a Lab coat (no fluffies -- unless the Lab was from one particular Swedish line, which I doubt there are any of in MT). For another, you wouldn't get that golden-yellow shade. Pyr white is dominant to tan/yellow so even if the Lab side carried yellow, not the shade you'd get. Also, chances are the nose would be black, even in winter. And that style of stop (the break between skull and nose) doesn't occur in Pyrs, but is real typical for Goldens. Earset and eye shape are also typical Golden.

Fact is, most supposed crosses ain't what they're purported to be, let alone what the vet or the pound told ya.

As to being overwhelmed.. Since I have 63 dogs (all Labs) and do all the kennel work myself, my sympathies are microscopic

We are absolutely sure. We watched the deed ! The mother was chained right above our property in Hot Springs by a construction worker building a few houses. The White Pyrenees was owned by a neighbor up the road. The puppies all looked the same except for the color. Some were a light chocolate brown and the others were blond. I have seen a few pictures of Lab/pyrenees cross dogs and many come out looking very much like Goldens. Everyone who sees her thinks she is a golden Retriever except golden retriever owners who see "Benny" up close. I can't get over the way she lets my little conure walk all over her !
