Default Moving to GF, Info on Real Estate, Recretation, General Info on Great Falls

So my wife and I are moving to Great Falls, MT soon. I stumbled across a thread from this website and saw that the responses were extremely informative.

I have found the rental market to be mediocre at best so we are looking at houses to buy. I just returned from Iraq and have been kind of out of touch on most news items for a while. How has the economic issues affected the housing market in Great Falls? Do you have any recommendations on neighborhoods to look at? The Map It option on the internet doesn't really give you the information I am looking for.

I also am looking to get some info on what there is to do in Great Falls? I am originally from a big city, but would really like to get into hunting. I want to experience all that Montana has to offer. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Stop by the porch for a visit, we would enjoy your company. Currently on an elk hunt, bear sighting river float.

Don't make a huge mistake. I am from atlanta and have lived in seattle, savannah, memphis, wilkes-barre.....anyway...having come from a bigger city myself I think I might be able to help you. I am in great falls now, looking for rentals...a little house, garage, 2-3 bd etc. I was going to be transfered here with my company...and having never been here before, I was excited! Now that I am here, i don't even care to leave the hotel.....the town is shoddy, roads are cracked, neighborhoods don't seem or look safe after dark..and there is nothing to do here. The people are nice, though a little out of it, but allllll of them want out of here!!!! When I ask "is there anything I should see before i go".....no one can think of anything... It is on the top of a mountain, so you wont see the mountains from your back door, unless you live 30 miles or so away from town. I am told that the northwest side of town is nicer/safer etc. It is the side where kmart/staples are. But, this is NOT where the rental listings are. There is a diverse culture downtown..though most seem to be in pre-release. Anyway, if you have never been here before, come first, I did, and i have decided I can't stay. Of coarse I am not a hunter, so I have no idea about this aspect. hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi, I got a little chuckle from your post.
It is a bit of a culture shock at times coming to Montana.
Shoot where is Robert Redford and that horse he is always on.

um....I live in bozeman now and have for the past year ...I love montana...it's just a matter of finding the right town....they are all sooooo different! I'm in helena now and I really like what i see so far....
Went on the artwalk, nice art town, lots of local artist.....kinda what i was hoping for.....
I'm pretty over bozeman...people are just a little to snooty, rich clone girl meets meth-head momma's boy and goes skiing with daddys money... man, i crack myself up sometimes....
