I think my guy charges something like $65/mo. for monopolizing a radio. The radio units cost him about $500 apiece just to purchase, plus rental space on various cellphone towers, but that's not much. The home dish units, when needed for folks like myself who are at the edge of the radio's unaided range, are an additional $200 or so. (It looks just like a DirecTV dish, only a bit smaller.)
But it'd be a lot higher in MT, from what prices I've seen -- the only halfway reasonable-priced outfit I've seen yet is the one I mentioned that I know covers the Bozeman area. And fixed wireless coverage is still very limited, even tho theoretically it should be available anywhere cellphone service is (the technology is there).
If you've got neighbours in the same fix, it might be worth your while to get together and form your own mini-ISP. That's been done a lot in various cities, where a whole apartment building gets together and buys XX-much bandwidth from whatever carriers are handy, and gets a better rate and higher speed than they could individually. In fact my one-man-band ISP (and most any small ISP) does almost the same thing -- he buys about 200-users worth of bandwidth from AT&T, then resells it to his customers (like myself

Those prices are do-able since it would be a business expence and would be much cheaper than the cost of renting an office in town. Not to mention the commute. So Mr. Reziac,.. sir... ole buddy... pal .... when would you be available to rig one of these up?
Thanks Man!

Heh, I wish. Tho the kneeling posture is quite attractive You benefit from my bizarre ability to randomly absorb and unpredictably regurgitate an endless quantity of useless information... I'm not a networking person (highspeed internet is just glorified networking)... I make my occasional 2-machine home network halfway-work by hunt-and-peck and dumb luck (or by calling my networking-maven friend). And I'm distinctly unhandy, being presently located in SoCal!
But yeah, even a hundred bucks a month would beat hell out of the cheapest office space, and it IS a business expense ... I've looked at business rental listings for Bozeman and the bottom end starts at about $400/mo. for a cubicle in the warehouse district out in Belgrade. You might find a room in one of the old houses that have been converted into office space for less, dunno, but I doubt they come open very often. It's probably lower in other towns -- Bozeman is way overpriced for everything compared to say, Great Falls.
Where were you looking to end up, anyway?

I'd guess because the area between Helena and Townsend is essentially flat, wireless should work, if it's available. DSL and cable... well, you'll just have to consult the house's former owner. If you plan a commute from Townsend to Helena, be aware that sometimes it does fog in pretty bad along that road, tho I've never seen it closed for snow (and I've driven it during some really rippin' blizzards -- you grow up in that climate, and there's no storm bad enough to keep you home!)
Only other drawback I can think of is that Townsend produces twin-engine mosquitos, in quantities that rival Minnesota!!

LOL, I was there last summer and they were in full swing at the time. Some locals have told me that some years are worse and some are better depending on the rain and level of Canyon Ferry.

BTW, a discussion you might find useful on wired vs wireless networking: Slashdot | Time To Cut the Ethernet Cable?
(If the site makes your eyes bleed and the layout makes your brain explode, and you happen to use Firefox, go to View, Use Styles, NO STYLE and it will change the site into essentially plain text. Or use an old old browser for the same effect.
Them skeeters is one thing I ain't gonna enjoy when I move back from SoCal... ain't seen enough here in 25 years to make one evening's worth in MT.
