WildBlue High Speed Satellite Internet in Montana | EXPERT WILD BLUE.com

The "Pro Pac" is $80 / $90 Whats your thoughts??
In the early days their reputation was dreadful, with some rather shady billing practices. More recently, friends here started using them (having no other alternative to extremely slow dialup) and are very happy with them. I'd say go over their contract with a fine-toothed comb, and be sure you're getting a highspeed uplink as well as downlink. (Satellite used to still need a dialup modem for uplink.)

Also check the installation fee. It used to be $600; dunno what it is now.

If you have other choices, I would not go for satellite regardless, because it can be affected by weather and has terrible latency (lag compared to realtime). But in some areas you may not have another choice.

Damn the Blue Wire "Pro" package has speeds of only 1.5Mbps.

The cheapest Qwest DSL speed is 1.5Mbps for only 14.95 a month. I have the "faster" package from Qwest at 7Mbps and it's okay. The 20Mbps is not offered in my area, yet.

I might get Blue Wire if I move to my girlfriend's land. The only thing is we may need more solar panels to run a satellite Internet package.
