Are you sure we never met each other years ago camping ?
In PA when we were kids... teens actually, at dusk we used to go out away from camp about 100' feet in the open and start twirling a small roostertail or panther martin around on a fishing pole. It was like ringing the bat dinner bell. They would come in droves ! One person would do the twirling until a bat grabbed the lure while the others would attempt knocking them for a loop with a stick as they flew around.
It was quite a scene until my cousin got a panther martin spinner stuck in his chest one time... that ended the fun FOREVER . That sucked because that was some fun stuff .
Ended up torturing the bats that actually got a hold of the lure. That was before we learned that you weren't allowed to hurt them . Good thing fish and game never saw us doing that. Stupid too as we would be right out in the open in campgrounds doing it !
Pretty funny trying to real in a bat !
Rickers, when I was in FL one time doing some pier fishing, a pelican scooped up some dude bait before it had time to get under the water far enough. That was a wild site him realing it in and then trying to get that hook out ! They too ended up cutting the line as close to the bird as they could get. That bird was beating people up .

LOL, I read it a few times and had almost ruled out pan fried buzzard. Then I got to thinking..... If they had been eating elk the week before that might be good. Elk stuffed buzzard...

OK you asked for it !
In a large cast iron kettle hanging over your campfire at your camp at Hungry Horse Reservoir, put in 20 gallons of river water, add 1 whole uncleaned freshly killed buzzard, two muskrats, three bull snakes and four field mice. Boil for five days stirring continuously.
Enjoy !

You forgot the most important part:
At the end of five days, throw away the buzzard and eat the pan!!

Yeah, I have that recipe. I was hoping you had the one with the pickled lizzard tounge. It has a little more of a southwestern citrus flavor.

Oh, pickled lizard tongue... I think that involves smoking it over a mesquite fire, then serving it with peyote sauce.
