Default Info on Heart Butte, MT

Hey, everyone. I was reading through some posts about Browning, MT from a couple of months ago. Everyone who commented said that Browning wasn't such a good place. What I was wondering is if Heart Butte has this same sort of reputation. Your comments are appreciated! Thanx.

Heart Butte is a tiny little slum in the middle of nowhere with a lot of similar probs as Browning. Lack of industry, low income folks...kind of destitute and desolate. Not a very open community; not much thru-traffic.

I'm going there this summer with a group from my church. We'll be doing mission work. That's why I'm wondering.

We are so sorry that you think of us in this light. We are a small community that has a lot of Heart! I don't mean just Heart as in Heart Butte but truely from the heart.
We met many mission teams this past year as in the past. The mission teams have been so great. Everyone here appreciates them so much. I imagine that you visited Heart Butte with the Youth Works teams or the Vision teams. If I recall there are very few Visions kids that really, really mingle with our community. Although my daughter-in-law is from the east and was here once with one of the Visions team. The Youth Works teams were great and supportive of our community.
Although I have only briefly once visited a slum area in New York City in the 70's I don't consider Heart Butte even remotely close to being a slum area.
If you have ever visited Heart Butte in the past I hope your next visit is a much better experience. Get to know us!!!

Default Heart Butte

I've only been in Heart Butte for partial days....when I worked as a school photographer. I really enjoyed the people at the school. They were all friendly and the kids seemed well-behaved. The only bad thing I can remember is that the weather turned bad very quickly! We almost got snowed in and school was shut down because of the weather. That is no one's fault, it could happen a lot of places. Other than that, my experience there was good. Moderator cut: (Great comments but was referring to deleted post.) I think it's great that people do mission work in Heart Butte. As shown by some posts here, some of the people need to be touched by God's love, as do many white people or people of any race or heritage.

Shame on Lorlei from Helena.

Ryflem:

Heart Butte and Browning have many good people. The towns have problems too, but so do ALL towns, whether apparent at first glance or not. If you open your heart to the people and your mind to the culture, you will enrich your life with your experience there.

And about the discrimination issue--Most of the posts I've read that bash the Non-Native Americans for the historic treatment of Native peoples are from other Non-Natives, not from Native Americans. Look back through the forums and see for yourself.

Wow - this thread has been enlightening and, sadly, illuminating.

I'm from Australia and I have a lifelong fascination with, and love for, America, warts and all. We have those warts in Oz, too, so don't shoot me for offering my 2 cents worth, ok!
Next year I will be able to take my dream "drive America" holiday. My first destination, as it has been for many years, is Montana.
If there is a more God-blessed part of the world, I have yet to see it and I have lived in Germany, Scotland, Malaysia, Laos and Thailand, where my wife comes from. I've visited many other parts of the world, including Switzerland, but Montana has more "Switzerland" in 20 square miles.....the rest is all bonus.
God was in a real show off mood when he splashed the paint bucket around your neck of the woods.

I GoogleEarth constantly and as my explorations of Montana spread out from my #1 goal, Going to the Sun Road, I discovered Heart Butte. Now, more than ever, I am going to Heart Butte.

I'm no bleeding heart liberal, in fact far from it. I'm a firm believer in the Anglosphere plus muscle, actually.

America is not only a geographical location. It is an ideological construct that people adhere to or reject. They are born into it also.
Seems to me that the Native American has as much right to access "America" as anyone else who adheres to the construct - perhaps more so. Something that "white america" had better come to terms with... and fast, I am certain.
A divided house cannot stand.

America, at present, has far more devisive issues to deal with. You have, over generations and through your great heart, opened your doors to multitudes. It's been a hard slog for many of those newcomers but those who ascribe to the values of America CAN find a home there. They may not find a pot at the end of the rainbow, but they live with the freedom to try.

These days you have a group of people who have abused your welcome, beginning to dominate your political world. They have come from another "ideological construct" that is diametrically opposed to any and all "american values". Their values come from a failed and deceitful "prophet" - the very same "prophet" who inspired 9/11 and who continues to inspire intolerable and unbelievable levels of hatred - all directed at you.

Look at Dearborn, Michigan and some of the Muslim enclave towns of the Ohio Valley. No go zones, where the rule of American law is not welcome or allowed. Where "cultural practices" allow the mutilation of young girls and the enslavement of older females. Where the iron rule of the most unforgiving god is absolute.
How often do you need to hear open and vitriolic confession of the religious duty Muslims have, to destroy your culture, heritage and society? Do you not think they mean every threat and word? Check out the news.
I am still reeling in shock from a YouTube video I saw last year, where 5 or 6 guys from the NYC "Islamic Thinkers Society" trampled the American flag in the streets of NYC.... and no-one did anything!!
You have the Trojan Horse in your midst, but you ignore it still.
I'd be embracing your fellow Americans, in these perilous days, not ostracising them.

I'll take my soap box home now---ok?
God Bless America. Love it or leave it.

Ok, time to take the chips off the shoulders..... Was the statement about Heart Butte insulting? Moderator cut: referring to deleted comments

The question I have for anybody is how long are you going to blame others for your current situation before you take it on yourself to change it? I don't mean by demanding handouts or that someone give you something YOU have not earned but by educating yourselves, getting a good job, saving money and starting a business. It's easy for anyone to sit around and moan about what happened years ago but it's not a helpfull use of time and gains you nothing.
If the jewish people sat around and moaned about how the pharo/romans/hitler etc enslaved them and took everything they had many times over then that's all they'd be doing and not prospering. Everybody has issues to conquer, the test of your mettle is how (or if) you conquer them or just sit around and cry about it and blame others whom you've never even met......
