I'm getting really fed up with people(some fellow Americans), who think it's okay to have our constitutional rights eroded on a daily basis. Many on these kinds of sites. Taglines(some people's opinions) like; take a stand for apathy, freedom of speech-RIP, are rampant on the web, and in real life. Are they going to start banning books in Boston again? And the right to bear arms. I guess a lot of our countrymen want only the criminals and terrorists to be armed. Apathy and idiocy! Not my pig, not my farm, not my problem, seems to be the theme of the day. I'm thinking about moving back to the misty mountains to live off the land with a tribe of my choosing before the bottom drops out. Will have no need for politicians, lawyers, or small minded people. Am looking for recruits. Does anyone know how to make fire in the wild? I can cook, hunt, and fish, but I absolutely cannot bait my own hook. I have a friend that lives here that says, "How come when I get a ticket to the circus I only get to see the freakshow?" Not worried about govt. workers around here, but I do have one last question: Do you have a right to shoot the Weedtrol guy who trespasses onto your backyard when you are watering your veggies in nothing but your undies??? I'd like to get a sign: Don't worry about the little dog(he's harmless), but I would be concerned about the big gun(s)

Not sure how it is in Stone Mountain Georgia but up here we respect others. We take care of others. We simply do what we can. Hey, it's wide open spaces and it's the land of the free.

Like many on this site I've lived all over(military brat). I hate to say it, and sound old, but in the good old days(mine anyway) most people had common sense and common courtesy. And people had more respect for each other, not just their own friends and family. That's why I like visiting your porch. Also, people had respect for elders, and authority. Small govt! No nosy govt workers or cops in your business. No one would have stood for it! They were there for the petty thugs and crime, and to write tickets, not to watch over the good citizens. I'm only talking about my own experience though. I've never lived in an urban area. It just seems that now, the people with common sense and common courtesy are in the minority. Like I said I love this porch. Great talking with you ElkHunter!

It is always great talking with folks. I wasn't a brat, but I was military. Spent 18 years in Uncle Sams Canoe club. hahahaha
We don't have much crime up here. Least, we don't much that we talk about. haha

Everyone in my family just about was in one branch or the other throughout the years. WWII, Korea, Vietnam mostly. All our people made it back. Not so many of my friend's family members. Not really a brat. Most of my friends are military brats. Term of endearment to us I think they kept our villages on the edges of towns, so if they got attacked, the whole city or town wouldn't be caught in the crossfire.

This thread reminds me of 'Cointelpro' among many other things.

Canonball
Anybody from the Lewistown (Fergus County) area? My father grew up there. "CANONBALL" was his nickname in high school. My father is now in his mid seventies. So I'm guessing he graduated from high school sometime around the late forties or early fifties.
I have been to Montana many times with my father. It truly is "BIG SKY COUNTRY". When I'm out there I feel free. But maybe I just take after my father.

"Forget the dog -- Beware of owner!"
The funniest one I've seen was on a pasture gate at a dairy farm, it said something like "This bull can run 40 mph. Can you??"
As to making fire in the wild... I know the principles but never had any success at it. But I don't have much patience for that kind of thing any more, and matches aren't really high-tech -- they've been around for centuries.
