Talking Moving

I was born and raised in Butte during the 50's. I worked in the smelter, pit, and concentrator. I still have family living there. Besides Whitehall (which entails driving over Homestake pass or down Harding Way) or Anaconda (where the remains of the superfund site are) you have another choice, south. If you leave Butte heading west on I-80 and then turn south on I-15 it will take you down into the Divide area. From there you have a lot of land (including Fleecer mountain area) to choose from. At Divide you can head up the river (the Big Hole) and find land there, or you can continue south on I-15 towards Dillon hitting Melrose, etc. If you are set on living East of the Continental Divide in Whitehall, you should also consider Cardwell, and even Sheridan/Silver Star. Homes on the east side of the divide are in the 'rain shadow' of the mountains. They are drier and hotter in the summer and are warmer with less snow in the winter. If you are set on Butte, consider buying out along the road to the reservoir. Hope you enjoy Butte, she was a 'heck' of a gal in her heyday.....

Anaconda... not doing so great. They did just get a new restaurant (I think it's called Rocky Mountain Grill or something like that; it's good), but otherwise the town is DYING/DEAD. I lived there for several years and left, and my grandmother who lives there now is also leaving for Helena this year. Nearly all the old stores and restaurants are closing down since they can't do a good business, and the town is so poor it can't even keep its side roads taken care of. Plus you have that ugly pile of black stuff outside town. And the speed limits... 25 down Park/Commercial... grrrr! Obnoxious.

Default Well, Anaconda DID win out in the end!

We ened up buying a home in the Mill Creek Area, off the Grid, and on 20+ Acres. We will be moving 4th of July Weekend. This is the LAST place I thought that we would move to. But, of all the homes we looked at-this was our favorite!

PS The new eatery in Anaconda (Rocky Mountain Brewery) in AWESOME!

Yes it is

Let's hope they get enough business to stay open. Easier said than done in Anaconda.
