I am seeking information about the homesteading years around Harlem, Montana. My grandparents homesteaded several sections north of Harlem, about 13 miles south of the Canadian border. Where do I find histories written for this area?

One good source is a book called "Thunderstorms and Tumbleweeds" which was put out by the Blaine County Historical Society back in the 70's. It had a lot of personal biographies and first person accounts of the area and it's homesteaders.

I too am looking for information about the founding and settlement of Harlem, MT. Is the book "Thunderstorms and Tumbleweeds" available for purchase? I am interested in information about Charles Smith who came to the area in the 1870s.

You can find him here:

Progressive Men of the State of Montana | Mansfield Library | The University of Montana-Missoula (http://www.lib.umt.edu/gsdl/cgi-bin/library.exe?a=q&r=1&hs=1&e=q-000-00---0montana--00-0-0--0prompt-10---4------0-1l--1-en-50---20-home---00031-001-1-0utfZz-8-00&h=snm&t=1&q=smith - broken link)]

Just use from the WWW to the smith part otherwise it won't work.

I am interested in information on a marriage in Harlem between Mabel McDowell and Emil Stensing that took place 14 November 1918.

Thank you.
