I lived in Stevensville, Montana, which is centered between Missoula, and Corvalllis. I commuted to Missoula daily for work and worked with a lot of University of Montana students. I think you would definitely fit in and enjoy Missoula. One winter I spent there was mild, the other was colder and we had more snow, but I can't imagine that the winters are worse than Michigan.

I think you should make sure you explore your housing options though. It's not cheap in the Missoula/Bitteroot Valley area. But you may be able to rent a house with some other people around the University, as a lot of students do. Jobs are sketchy, but at least you will have one secured. There are also several mobile home parks to live in, as I did relatively affodably.

There would definitely be more jobs in Missoula - Corvallis is in the valley, and is pretty rural, with the small town of Hamilton nearby, where there are some businesses.

Good Luck!
