Calais, Maine to Dillon, Montana
My husband and I are looking into the possibility of moving to Dillon. If we were to move, he would be working at the hospital in Dillon and I may look for something part-time. We've lived in Maine our entire lives, and the reason we are considering the move is simply because it would be an opportunity to live in a part of the country we both love. Calais and Dillon appear on the outside to be similar in a number of ways, but I am wondering about the schools in Dillon. Our high school here in Calais has just over 300 students in grades 9-12, and I noticed that the high school in Dillon is a county high school. Can anyone give me an approximate enrollment? I've looked online but haven't found anything about enrollment. Our high school serves only our small town of about 3500, and a few outlying areas. We have 4 kids, and 3 would be at the high school in the fall. I also notice there is more than one elementary school in Dillon. Any thoughts on which is better? I've been reading the threads but any information you could give me about Dillon, and even the hospital, would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not sure of the exact number of students in the high school, but it seems like it would be about the same size as your current town. I went to a high school that was about 180-200, and Dillon has always seemed just about twice as big. I've been to the high school in Dillon fairly recently, and it's not very big. This is kind of unscientific; I know.
The county high school thing doesn't really mean much. There are high schools in the most of the other surrounding small towns, so it's not like it's drawing in tons of kids from other areas. They're mostly farm and ranch kids around Dillon, so you shouldn't have too many worries about the character of kids from Dillon. Most of the ones I've met have been really great.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I'd love to know what others think of the Dillon area, either from visiting or from living there. We're used to a smallish type of town, and it looks like Dillon has that atmosphere--small movie theater, not a lot of chain type stores, for example. We're hoping to visit within the next month--any suggestions of places we shouldn't miss?

just writing in to move this back near the top. I'm sure if I'd written something political that I'd have a lot of responses....I am reading another thread here though where you guys seem to be beating up on MAINEr....and starting to feel bad for the guy who is just searching for some answers.

That post by Molly is from last April, Shortly after she joined CD. The question was discussed and resolved long ago. We are in no immediate danger of losing her.
