Visiting Glacier Nat Park in early June
We'll be flying into then driving up to the Park from Great Falls - can anyone suggest any nice towns to stop at en route to the Park?
Also, any recommendations for "must see/do" hiking trails, drives or activities?
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks
LG

Depending on how early in June; probably will not get to do the Sun Road(it is on schedule to open around mid-June). Two Medicine park has many falls and trails to see. Gotta get further north and see Chief Mountain.
Go to the Glacier Natl. Park website( Glacier National Park (U.S. National Park Service)) tons of useful information.

The dinosaur museum is located between Great Falls and Glacier Park if you like that sort of thing. If you make arrangements in advance, you can also go on a dig. See Montana Dinosaurs and the Two Medicine Dinosaur Center of Montana for more info.

The Sun road is not scheduled to "offically" open until July 1st and I don't think vehicle traffic will be allowed until the end of this month. My wife is a shuttle driver on the Sun road and was told they can't even test drive the road until then. You can however walk or bicycle up the road.
There was a rather nasty slide this winter and it tore out a bunch of guard rail that they're in the middle of replacing right now.

I called park services on Monday and that was what they told me! They did not have an exact date, but said around mid-June. I guess that can change daily depending on the conditions there though.

Are you making this trip to see the park or is this just a side trip for something else planned. If the primary purpose is to see the park you might want to consider rescheduling your trip to arrive after the Sun Road opens. The drive is awesome

Try to fit in a drive to Polebridge Mt. Its one of those quirky places you'll never forget. Its just a general store with cafe and bakery and some very rustic cabins. No electricity. A three-legged dog sleeps by the front door. A few miles past Polebridge you can drive about six miles into Bowman Lake inside Glacier Park. Awesome mountain scenery and if you're lucky some wildlife. Its on the West boundary of Glacier. Do it, you'll be glad you did.
