Anything romantic and not too far (I am thinking of Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming) We want a great place to stay and are flexible from a cabin in the woods to a classy hotel...
Having lived, traveled and worked in this part of the Rocky Mountain West (CO, WY, UT, ID) since 1965, I would suggest that you contact the C of C in: Jackson Hole, WY; Park City, UT; CD'L, ID........Tell them your SPECIFIC desires (be quite detailed as to dates, accomodations, outdoor activites etc), and ask for a list (Brochures etc) of those operations that meet your desires. I've used this approach for many years and it's always worked for me.

(Example: two yrs ago this fall, I wrote an e mail to the Pres of the CofC for Brunswick, GA. Stating I would appreciate info on renting a house for a couple of winter months (in an outlying area) . I wanted to be able to do some quail hunting with my Bird dog; sight see an area that I had never been to before, visit 3 or 4 of the coastal Islands in the area and just enjoy the winter months weather in the area. Within 10 days I was contacted by the manager of a very fine local Hunting Club in the area and GIVEN a free membership for the length of my stay in the area. I also was given a lead on a private home to rent (on St Simons Island) which I did end up renting for 2 months.; Also was supplied a list of "good" local restaurants and the contact names of some local quail hunters and sportsmen that offered to assist me in any way they could.....Ended up having a wonderful time...met some great people....got to know an area that I found very interesting and educational.....and now have several new friends that contact me every few months,........just to see how the 'ole Fogey is doing....(almost at the end of my 8th decade now)...

Good luck.

That is a nice area, I grew up in Southwest GA. I got a great smile when I thought of Brunswick and Brunswick Stew.

Yes, the stew was very good......served at almost every restaurant in the Brunswick area. Was it common over across the state on the west side as well? Towns like Dothan and Andalusia? Is that where you were raised? I do miss the variety of good BBQ places. The town of Brunswick itself, I felt was obviously having a tough time getting funds and organizations to promote the renovation that is definitely need to bring it upto a level that will draw a greater number of tourists. Still, I did enjoy the area, particularly Jeykell and St Simons, Islands

Albany is where I hail from.
Peanuts, pecans, and Brunswick Stew. Each family has their own additions, ours involved an entire pig's head
Jeykell Island is so gorgeous. Did you ever get through Eufaula to see the homes? I miss me some fried catfish!
Way too crowed now, with many family members unable to afford their homes due to increase in taxes.

Fried catfish! Oh, that's yummy, I love catfish. Used to be able to get good catfish at Sam's Club -- rich flavour but not strong. Ate it for breakfast once in a while. Yeah, I eat weird.

And pecans. No they ain't walnuts. Pecans are way better!!!

Pickled pigs feet... Mmmmm.... well, that's ALMOST a pig's head

Anyone else coming to our pic-a-nic?

Ughh Catfish.. Not for this guy. I'd pick a salmon, halibut, or even perch way before that. I'm stingy about trout... to me I like brookie breakfast, lunch or dinner over a brown or even a cut or a rainbow anyday.. just have to catch more of the little guys to fill ya! They go great with eggs and hashbrowns! When I get up to Alaska I come back with lots of salmon, and love it raw with poached eggs and toast.. So I'm wierd too..lol

Pecans however I'd agree are way better than walnuts!

As for pigs feet or heads... I wouldn't know, but I do like my bacon!

How fish taste depends so much on where they live, how warm the water is, and what they eat... way-back-when I liked rainbows best (from cold water -- don't like warm-water trout much), perch and walleye and sunfish about equal (fried sunfish, yummy!)... might like something else better now! Didn't think sucker fish could be any good til I caught a big whitefish from an irrigation ditch that comes off the East Gallatin, and well, it was either eat that fish or go hungry, so I ate it, and durn if it wasn't delicious!! Tried some farm-raised catfish on a whim a while back, and durn if it wasn't even better! Buttery-flavoured and very mild. So I got converted.

Yes your catfish depends on the where and whys of their home. We had our own pond with a fresh stream feeding and filling it and the cats were very fresh. You have to prepare them quick after catching them.
Living so many years close to the coast in Oregon though spoiled me to wild salmon, halibut
Here it is Lutefisk.

Malta is a strange town, We found the town to be odd and unfriendly compared to the other towns I've been to in Montana. Odd, odd, odd !

Rickers did you actually get out of your car?

Malta is certainly not unfriendly but it is very small, it was probably instantly known you were an outsider (even without seeing your plates). Why? Malta knows. Everyone knows everyone and everyone talks. If a cousin comes and visits that hasn't been there in years someone will call the aunt or uncle when they are still 5 miles out of town and let them know "Johnny (or Sara or Ann)" is almost here.

If you are from Malta every car you pass will wave at you. It isn't that they don't like outsiders, but they are to be helped kindly but watched closely to see what kind of person they are.
