Haha... kindof like the arrangement I arrived at with the pack that was in residence when I got this place ... you stay out of my front yard, and I won't shoot at you. Stung a couple with bird shot and after that I'd sometimes see all 5 of 'em sitting in a row across the road, all polite-like, and they stopped crapping in my yard, too

Over time those all disappeared (at least 3 got hit by cars and crawled clear over here, half a mile from the highway, before they kicked off -- guess they wanted to die at home) and now there's just one female who's a regular -- comes to drink out of the puddle from the soaker hose every day. There's no water out here anymore except close to people, so....

Anyway, yeah, coyotes can be pretty durn brave. Anywhere a stray dog will come, they will too. In fact, according to the DNA research, coyotes followed man across the continent, and were not originally that spread out on their own.

I had an Alaskan Husky-Timber wolf for a pet as a child in Montana. Beautiful creature I raised from a pup. God I miss that dog.

Walk with a little dog and carry a big gun. In a free state like montana you can do that.

I wouldn't worry about wolves unless you are camping somewhere very very secluded. In which case, having a hunting rifle or something of that nature is advisable more because of bears than wolves. I have lived here my whole life and have never heard of wolves causing a problem to pets- livestock maybe but that's pretty normal.
