Default Lightning safety urged during the month of July

4 people have been killed since Friday by lightning---5 since July 1st and 16 since June 1st, including a Billing Montana man. Montana man killed by holiday lightning strike - USATODAY.com

This is the peak month for lightning deaths, with a average of 17 deaths.

Total of 20 deaths from lightning, this year. vs a total of 28 deaths in all of 2008.


Lightning strikes cause over 750 lightning related incidents in 2008

A heck of a lot more people died from smoking cigarettes. I say if someone is stupid enough to be outside when lightning is happening then let them get struck. I only feel sorry for the folks who for some reason get stuck without a building to hide in such as backpackers on a trip or something and they know the risks.
