You know, 20 years ago I'd say, "Go see Ron at xxxxxxx" but no more. Insurance has gotten to be like the local filling station. It's not local anymore. It's a chain that says, "Move along, there's another sucker behind you that wants to pay cash."

Sad to say. But it's here. What insurance to you hold now? If they've been good, stick with them. Might have to talk to an agent 40 miles away but at least you'll have continueity.

I hear ya ElkHunter. We are moving from Missouri and I don't wish to keep the same company. Plus I am under the impression that rates are defined by the area and hope that they will be less expensive out there. At first it will be just auto and I would much rather spend my money with a local representative than the internet big name brands.

Thanks.

I've been with State Farm for decades -- the account goes back to 1964. They've always been the lowest rate for full coverage on my accident-free record (tho you can get liability alone for less elsewhere) and pretty good to deal with on the few claims I've had (windshields a few times). I just find the closest agent and go with 'em (nearest to Townsend is in Helena, tho).

Anyway, best to get where you're going then shop the local agents. You need an exact address to get a solid quote. Rates can vary a lot depending on exactly where you live and the claims risk in your area -- frex, I moved 30 miles and my rate went down by 25%.

Thanks guys! I wrote it today with Centennial Insurance in Townsend. A very nice gal named Julie. She got me a quote that I was very happy with, signed me up and faxed me a proof of ins. card in just a few hrs. She was a pleasure to deal with and very efficent.

Also my wife talked to a very nice gal at the License and title office in Townsend too. We have everything we need and will be registering the truck there when we come out the end of the month.

Amazing how nice we were treated, great people in Montana!!

Things are coming together for our big move..

Well, it is really hard to say as we are now only insuring one truck till we get settled, and we made some policy changes as well. But at first glance it seems to be quite a bit less.
