Can anyone tell me about Noxon, Plains or Thompson Falls??
We are looking for info on these as we will be checking out some houses in each spot in about 2 weeks.
Any help is appreciated. Would love to talk with some locals.

I'm not a local but my sister & her hubby retired to T. Falls. It is gorgeous there. They bought land right on the reservoir part of the river and built a home there. The land was reasonably priced. They love it there. The biggest differences they say is that T. Falls' climate is better than Noxon, although they aren't that far apart. Noxon gets more snow and it's colder there. Plains is not right in the trees like the other 2 are, but it is a bit bigger than T. Falls so has more amenities. Noxon is very small. T. Falls has a nice grocery store as well as several other small businesses, churches, etc. I'm sorry I don't know more about the area, but I wanted to share what I have learned from my sister. Best of luck in your search. The entire area is gorgeous!

I lived in Sanders County for a dozen years 88-91ish. Bring your job with you. Plains has the nicest weather and is more open, less forested. TFalls is the county seat and is the largest town, best services, although the hospital is in Plains. TFalls is most scenic with larger choice of homes, major roads, routes into National Forest etc. Noxon is very small, few services, 3-4 feet of snow accumulates in many winters, compared to 1-2 feet or less in Plains & TFalls. More "independent thinking" types in that area. Excellent fishing in Noxon Reservoir.

Thank you!
By Independant thinking people what do you mean exactly? We are conservative people, definately not wanting a Birkenstock wearing group of Libs to live around! I dont think we would mesh too well.
We are only planning to live there May-Sept.
We both work online so jobs is not an issue. Thompson Falls is just an idea we have been kicking around as well as some areas up North like Eureka. Not sure which areas have the worst winters??

As in any area you will encounter folks from all stripes of political persuasion. There are more faaaaar right types (militia leanings) in Western Sanders County than in Plains and TFalls. This is neither good nor bad, just the way it is. All of the county is working class, more logging boots and hunting boots than sandals.
I very much miss living there. I loved it but slowly went bankrupt and had to move to where the jobs were in Bozeman.
Be sure and stock up on huckleberries in August and September. Older southwest facing clearcuts are the best. Good luck.

Here is a funny sign right alongside Hwy 200 in Plains, it was a birthday present for an old-timer from his buddies.

Nothing much in Plains or Noxon. TF is the best place to live, outside of the Swan (where I live). Like an earlier post said - bring your job. If you love hunting, camping and fishing can be your nirvana.

The Swan Valley is between the Mission Mountains and the Swan Range.
The pics below were taken from across the Clark Fork River from Thompson Falls, Below the dams.
