Question First Visit

Hi Everybody,
The end of May or the beginning of June I will be coming up to Helena from Florida to visit a dear friend I have not seen in a year. She tells me how beautiful and breathtaking it is so I am really looking forward to it.Especially since I am the nature lover type.I know it will be quite the change in scenery ! I would kindly like to ask for any tips/hints and advice about the weather temps that time of the year.Never been to that part of the country before.Thank you to all who reply.

Hi,

It is usually rainy at least part of Memorial Day weekend in Helena, as May and the first part of June are our rainiest times. I would pack a windbreaker, perhaps some capris (if you're female), some shorts, a sweatshirt or fleece, and a few tee shirts. You can expect temperatures anywhere from 50 to 80; it's an unpredictable time of year.

Make sure to visit Mount Helena City Park while you're here. You can get a great view of the surrounding valley, see birds & deer, and maybe run across some wildflowers.

Thats funny you mentioned Mt. Helena, I was going to say the same thing.

That time of year will be very pretty, things should be nice and green.

I think the climate should be very pleasant that time of year. The humidity in Florida can be pretty tough when it's hot but Montana is very dry in comparison so it really makes a difference in how it actually feels. I hope you have an enjoyable trip.

Make sure, if you are a hiker, to bring along mosquito and tick repellents. Ticks in Montana are especially nasty and spread some bad diseases. They lurk in the brush.

While you are in Helena, be sure to also visit the State Capitol grounds. Hopefully the politicians will be gone!! It's a beautiful building and has been recently refurbished. There are seveal good art museums there too.

Also remember that the temperature drops about 5 degrees for each 1000 feet you ascend, so if when you take trips up into the mountains, it will be considerably colder than down in the town.
