Default Practice shooting around Helena?

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows where a good place to go to practice shooting might be??? Any gun clubs or ranges or public domain use areas that you can recommend? Is there a SASS group in the area as well? Thanks for any info.

You can try searching Find NRA Near You for ranges. There are probably other ranges around as well - check the phone book. A lot of BLM land is available. Some BLM offices offer shooting maps indicating where shooting is and isn't allow on BLM lands. I'm not familiar with any specific places though.

Heck just go up Magpie Gulch road or Beaver Creek road and pick a spot away from folks in the Helena National forest and set up a target. Please don't use trees as a target backing.

My husband and son go to Logan. There's lots of ranges, check out the NRA website. They also go hiking to shoot (I don't know where exactly, but it's an approved place to do so!)

There is an established rifle/pistol range up on McDonald Pass. You used to be able to buy the memberships from Capital Sports.
There is a sporting clays range on Indian Creek in Townsend, and a trap club on North Montana Avenue in Helena in the Valley.

You can shoot on forest service around Helena, but be careful as there are some McMansions on old mining claims in the forest, so be careful of your backstop.
Get away from the road as well. It is illegal to discharge a weapon within 30 feet of an established roadway.

Logan is a great range, just a little further from Helena than some would like to drive. It is roughly 40 miles south of Helena.

Always be careful when discharging a firearm around populated areas. Helena has grown a lot of subdevelopments where it used to be safe to recreate.
Times have changed....

I bring my skeet thrower up Magpie all the time! Maybe I'll see you out sometime.
