Hi Guys,
I am finally going to Montana next week to visit my brother. Not sure what to pack. The climate? He lives sorta near Helena by a forest.(thats all I know)
We are going to do some horse riding and boating. I am getting so excited!!
Are there misquitos or other bugs I should be aware of? Is the evening time super cold? Should I bring a jacket?
Thanks for any replys

Well I will jump in
We have just returned from our annual 3 week trip to our place south of Annaconda. Last couple of years have been HOT and DRY. Needless to say we brought clothes for those situations. On the 8th it was 36 in the am and made it up to a high of 45 degrees. The 9th it was 30 degrees and frost on everything. We departed the 18th and it was finally warming up again.
So be prepared for anything on the weather side check the weather.gov site for the area and then click on the map for a better pin point forecast.
Mosquitos were not so bad this year, deet took care of them. It is the deer/horse fly's that create a bite that you don't soon forget.
We went to Storm Lake by Georgetown and there was still snow along its banks.

It's been pretty hot in the Helena area this last week, though they are "predicting" a storm coming through in the next couple days. If you are visiting someone that lives near a forest, you will probably get hit with the mosquitoes, as it was a really wet spring this year and before we moved to the western side of the state in June, we had them pretty thick in town. I think the rule of thumb is pack for everything, bring bug/bear/alien repellant, and be prepared to buy snowgear JUST IN CASE.

Central Montana is high desert, and daily temperature high-low spreads generally are 30 to 35 degrees F, but can, at times, balloon to 50 to 70 degrees F, so it is possible to go from a daytime high of 100F to a nighttime low of 30F ...

I agree layers are good. And raingear just in case, the weather can turn quickly. There's some bugs but nothing like the east coast. Have a fun trip.

Camera, toothbrush, sun glasses, two sets of clothes, and underware. Everything else, ask your brother if you can borrow his. Travel lite.

It's hot out so tonight I'm only packing a .45 and a .40. Light sweater, more for the skeeters then heat.
