When you say the days are hot...how hot are you talking? Under 90 would be ok How long of a commute is it for your husband? Is it a horse freindly area (we have 3 horses)? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to narrow things down.

Montana is a very stock friendly state.
By this I mean that your horses would be welcome, regardless of which part of the state you chose to live in.
Mineral County (Superior) is one of the more beautiful areas in western Montana. Folks shop Missoula frequently from Superior.
Superior is located on the Clark Fork river and is just a hop, skip and a jump from the Idaho line.

I kinda thought it might be When I go to Realtor.com, it doesn't always state whether horses are allowed. One thing is certain though, when I do look for property, I need to find one with a barn for winter protection....and also a workshop to keep and work on my Vette

We visited some relatives in Superior in '04 and '05 during June and July. We loved it and are planning another trip this summer. We didn't get to come this summer and was very disappointed. Our relatives sold their place this past September on Rim-a-Long Lane. We hope to see Mike and Sue (neighbors)when we get out there. Folks in Superior are friendly. We love the small town. We went to Lolo Forest and fished Trout Creek,Dry Creek, and the Clark Fork. The people who run the laundromat and motel said they were going to Alaska,(don't know if they got to go or not.) We bought our meat at that little meat packing place on the right before you turn off to the left. I think it was Second Creek? We got our fishing license at the grocery store downstairs at the Westgate True Value. We are from Canton N.C. We live in the mountains here but it is getting to crowded here. We were on here looking for a place to rent for a couple of months and found this forum. Superior caught our attention right away as we visited there two summers. We loved it. Don't mean to talk so much but got excited to see someone on here from Superior!

There are very few places in MT where horses are not allowed. Many parts of MT are still "open range" which means you "fence out" not that you have to fence yours in. Our bulls broke out once and one was hit on the county road. The guy that hit it had to pay us for it. If you work with a real estate person they will be able to tell you if a property that you are looking for has covenants against horses.
Also, Superior is in western MT which is foggy, grey and socked in for days at a time in the winter. Most towns in Western MT are like this. I was in Missoula for several days at the beginning of Dec. and didn't see the sun for 5 days. The airport there as machines that shoot carbon dioxide into the air to crystallize the fog so planes can get out.
Sorry to be so long winded but I know you are looking at lots of places both in WY and MT.

Thanks MHT I love long winded, as I am trying to be a sponge, and soak up all the info I can. Someone mentioned going to Great Falls...I think it was GiftShoppeGuy....said there is a lot of work there for my industrial/mechanic/technician skills
A place where we could literally ride right out off of our property, into the mountains, would be ideal.

Indeed......
20 minutes south of Great Falls, is Cascade, Montana.... where you can do exactly that.
Very rugged and beautiful country.
I'll blow the dust off of my digital camera and get you some pics of the area, I'll put them on one of our servers so that you can see for yourself first hand........

That'd be great. Thanks. I was thinking of taking some pics where I live now in Southern California, and posting it at City-Data. It is a nice little horse community (more horses than people live here), but it is to close to urban sprawl. All the horse trails paralell the streets, and with so many teenage (read: not to smart) drivers, it is kinda scary at times.
